Somebody just had an anatomy and physiology class

Kinda. More salt = high blood pressure, however.

That would lead to some (frank)ed up sht like low blood pressure, low aldosterone and high ANP release.

Well, granted, the Flyers can’t compare with the level of NHL success that the Winnipeg Jets have had, especially in that 1996-2011 period.
- jmatchett383

Huh? I don't remember bringing the Jet's (or lack thereof) into this thread.

But if we're going there, I'd argue that the level of NHL success during that time frame is....similar?

Flyers from 1996-2011: 15 years. Somewhere between 400 million to 1 billion dollars later (or more?). 0 Stanley cups. 15 Years of disappointment.

Winnipeg Jets from 1996-2011: 0 Dollars Spent. 0 Stanley cups. Mixed levels of disappointment, depending on which team you decided to cheer for ...

At least we had poutine.

If you're a Jets fan, and you want to come in to a Flyer's blog and be all snarky, then I'll pull up your team as well.

And yes, while the Flyers' team didn't win any Cups during that era, we at least had several long, entertaining playoff runs, some good (and bad) memories, and the privilege of being able to attend a game. I'd much rather have that than have no team at all because the team couldn't make any money.

I guess St. Louis is just 50 years of nothing but bad memories and heartache because they have never won a Cup, the only thing that apparently matters in your hockey world.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I remember ADH, Angiotensin and EPO all working to raise BP. ANP lowers BP. Wouldn't ANP be release due to high Na concentration creating higher water retention, increased blood volume and thus higher BP?

The Penguins fans reactions here are hilarious... I mean yes, your team just won the Cup (well deserved, I think), and your team has 4 vs. our team's 2. But if you don't like how Bill hand-picked numbers, then just go back to 1967, for the entire history of both clubs... and when you do that, the Cups are the only thing the Pens have on the Flyers (granted, the top measure)... but everything else: regular season, division titles, conference titles, head-to-head in both regular season and playoffs... it's the Flyers. The Penguins once went 15 years (42 games!) without winning in Philadelphia, while the Flyers once went 35 games in a row without losing to anyone... the Flyers were the 3rd NHL team to come back from 0-3 down to win a playoff series, while the Pens were only the 2nd team to lose a series after being up 3-0.

Look - I'm not trying to say that the Penguins are trash / losers / worthless, etc. They're far from it. It's just, if you want to compare them to the Flyers... well, you got us in the biggest measure, but not much else.

Pretty much.

Here's the thing. If you have isovolemic hypernatremia, RAAS doesn't do jack. You need to supplement free water to bring he Na+ concentration down.

As far as homeostasis goes. Higher Na+ concentrations than the body would like to see would trigger ANP release because it tells the kidney to clear Na+ (and water of course). However, you can't have your BP drop too low here which is why RAAS is an insane beast...because if it does, now you have angiotensin and all its friends doing their thing to correct you now low blood pressure.

The fact that he said sodium decreases BP is horrifyingly outrageous, and that's the bottom line.

Fans aren't allowed to give an honest opinion about other teams? The question was where does Philly rank... someone said they are elite ... I disagreed.

Things got salty ... some questionable human anatomy and physiology was thrown around ... and you ignored my comment about poutine.

You also compared Philly to a team that didn't exist. That's like me comparing Philly to the team Las Vegas put together between 1996-2011. It's like comparing apples to ... the team that Las Vegas put together between 1996-2011.

By the way, the only thing that matters in my hockey world is Teemu and his bazillion goal rookie season. You'll never take that away from me.

I hope you can correct me where I'm wrong, but high sodium/salt concentrations lead to decreased aldosterone secretion and increased Atrial natriuretic peptide secretion leading to greater sodium excretion and lower blood volume (and lower blood pressure)

This is correct, but not what you wrote.

So again. You failed, Quizkid.

EDIT: Now I see. You meant the endgame would see a low BP. You made it seem like you meant high Na would directly result in low BP. Please be more clear next time, Quizkid. Have fun in A/P.
