Yes, saw both Cups. Have been a loyal fan for nearly half a century. Unlike fans of another hockey team in western PA, Flyer fans support their team through thick and thin. Always.

Same. I do feel for the youngsters among us who haven't experienced it.

True, the Bullies weren't just a great team, but they were so much fun to watch. And the same can be said for the "streak" team of 79-80 and the mid 80s Keenan clubs.

I was at 11 games during the 2006/2007 season, the worst season in Flyers' history. Even though the building wasn't packed, I'd say most games I went to were between 60-80% full. At no point were the Flyers ever in danger of having to relocate due to piss poor fan attendance, and at no point did a former employee, much less the best employee in team history, miss millions of dollars of unpaid wages.

Which cup will he be sipping from?

Also, orange soda tastes better than champagne.

The unpaid wages thing really bothers me. What was it, $23 million or some absurd number. I mean, the guy was clearly the best player in team history, arguably in league history. He was the only reason the team even existed at that point, and they were unable to pay him all of that money? That's just pure bullpoop.

I was at one of the last games that season vs Buffalo. Sabres fans were walking around the concourse holding a tin foil Stanley Cup. I don't think they appreciated my comment which was something like: enjoy, it's probably as close as your city will ever come to winning an actual championship!

They laughed in my face while guaranteeing me that the Sabres would go on and win the Cup that Spring. Guess losing Briere to us just a few months later was just the icing on the cake!

Buffalo has won a Championship. Super Bowl XXV. Norwood split the uprights.

Yeah, it was really pathetic. The league should have just let them fold or relocate. It will happen again, I guarantee it. As soon as Crosby's gone and they return to their usual spot in the basement, the fans will bail. Just like how they ignored the Pirates when they were losing. And, don't kid yourselves, if the Steelers ever have a 4 or 5 consecutive losing seasons, they will probably bail on them too. They are the textbook definition of fair weather fans.

People like to bash Penguins fans, but they're nowhere near as bad as Buffalo and Washington fans, to me. Once you loudly cheer for the other team at a home game, you can no longer be considered a fan. As for Washington, they're all sheep who didn't know they had a team pre-OV.

Nah, even in the 80s, Steelers fans were still ravenous. Hell, people in Pittsburgh have doctors deliver their kids in terrible towels. That franchise will be supported no matter what, mostly due to the ownership structure.

Edit: The unpaid stuff to Mario, though, was some early-era KHL poop. They should have been forced to sell the team, relocation or not.

This is actually quite salty even by Bill's standards.

Don't bet on it happening to the Steelers (I wonder if draftkings will take bets for that)

I may be wrong about the Steelers, but the rest of what I wrote is factual. Post Mario/prior Sid, the Pens had terrible attendance, as did the Pirates until they started winning. You may not like it, but it is true. And, prior to Mario, the Pens had lousy attendance and were often on the verge of folding or relocating. Again, facts.
