You have to upgrade the defensive part of that pool. Zaitsev might as well not even be included in the list of prospects as we all know he'll be in the top 6 and most likely 3-4. There's not much quality there.

IMO

I think you undervalue Lindholm here. I get JVR is a very good asset, but you're asking for their best Dman in a trade. Unless contract talks start becoming contentious, I don't see a world where they'd trade him. He's already at least a top-30 Dman in the league (I'd argue top-20 even) and he's only 22.

Leafs depth is very good as well.


Toronto has the best farm system in the NHL and it isn't close. Based on my prospect definitions, there are zero reasonable arguments for anyone to even be in the same conversation. Not only do they have a ton of elite talent in players like Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander, but their depth is elite too. There are at least 20 prospects in this system that would fit in many other teams' top 10.

There, this makes me happy.

Amazing how finishing out of the playoffs for years makes the Leafs one of the best teams in terms of prospects. Don't get me wrong, Matthews, Marner and a few others are legit NHL players but if you get the first overall pick and don't appear in the "top prospects" list the following year, there's something seriously wrong. Unless of course you are the Edmonton Oilers and it takes 4 times getting the first overall pick and still managing to miss the playoffs.

Prospects aren't NHL players people. They are just that, PROSPECTS.
