if he scores 40 goals I would think you HAVE to protect him. how many 40 goal scorers are out there? even at his age that is still a hard thing to find. last year there were 4 40+ goal scorers...

He has 1 year left on the contract after this year, doubt the Rangers would protect him.

If I had to guess this will be Girardi's and Nash's final year with the Rangers.

Rangers signed him to a 1 year deal. So if they're talking about protecting him, I'd imagine that they'd want to extend him.

I don't disagree.. IF he scores 30-40

I just don't think anyone on this board has discussed resigning Nash if he does play out the remainder of his deal.. I think if you're burning a protection slot on him then resigning him HAS to be the plan

Good read. I think McIlwrath has developed into a legit NHL dman. Doesn't get beat as much but seems to get caught flat footed in front of Lundquist. Should Definately have a regular spot with Beakaboom running D. I think he would be perfect pair with Mcdonaugh. Gives Mac more space to roam and is a deterant for teams that are targeting the captain. Mac takes way too many hits and I don't see this happening with McIlwrath out there. Klein is oldest dman and has very tradable contract. Still has value on a team looking for reliable d. Staal would be a good fit with Carolina, a team he may accept a trade to considering his brother is signed there for another 5 years. They have very young d and Staal would add veteran leadership to group. They have a ton of cap space and if we threw in Lindbergh or Fast or another young player maybe they take Staal the way Arizona took Boland from Florida
