hey does anyone know what the AHL bury amount is this year? trying to figure out how much Glass is going to count against the cap once sent to the AHL.

Also, is anyone else worried about the lack of toughness on this team? I absolutely love the young offensive talent we have, but we have absolutely no one other than McIlrath that I would consider a fighter.

I think Glass is a 500K cap hit in the AHL

Pittsburgh won the Cup last year with less toughness than we have now. And, we are this year's Penguins.

What teams would you need multiple fighters for? Those days are gone and the player that can fight now better be able to play hockey. I would rather have team toughness( going to the dirty areas, being physical, not backing down, clearing the crease) then have players who can just fight.

true. but we don't have Crosby or Malkin, or Kessel for that matter. I don't like goons either but Im not sure we have guys that I would consider tough. Nash is big but I wouldn't say tough, Kreider hits guys but I don't think he fights nearly enough, Miller is ok, Zib is not tough... IDK, im just a little concerned with this many young forwards and no fighters on the team. I don't want to see another Gaborik V Rinaldo incident with one of the young guys.

I agree. but 5'7" can only do so much... I will admit he plays like he is Chara's size. but I don't think I have even seen him fight. maybe once. just a little concerned. I would be ok if G and Staal were tough stay at home Dmen, but we all know they are not.

Hey Jan can you do an expansion draft predictions blog? ive been looking at that a lot lately and I am thinking Klein is the one they lose.

Here is my protected list:
Henrik(NMC)
Defense(3)
Girardi(NMC )
Staal(NMC )
McDonagh
Forwards(7)
Stepan(NMC)
Kreider
Zib
Hayes
Miller
Zuc
Nash

with Skjei, Vesey, and Buch all exempt. I don't see LV taking Grabner, Pirri, Fast, or Lindberg - I could see them taking Klein though. either way I am ok. losing Klein is ok to me if we can keep McIlrath. it also frees up $2.9M in cap space giving them plenty of room to sign all the RFAs next year.

I cant talk myself into protecting Fast or Lindberg over Nash.

Pirri is an interesting option when it comes to the expansion draft. It will obviously depend on how this season plays out, but if he manages to score 15+ and remains an RFA, he might be worth protecting. Especially if he breaks 20+.

We haven't had this much forward depth in years. Kind of excited to see the competition during camp.
Also thinking that Gorton might have loaded up for the expansion draft expecting to lose some players. Not a bad move at all.

I think each team should have 2 at least. McIlrath and one other guy that can throw them. Today's NHL isn't what it was 5 years ago in terms of fighting but I still think it's an important part of the game. Miller can fight, Klein can fight but I still think we need 1 more guy.

Will try and get one up.
RFA are not amongst those that can be exposed, which is why Grabner's second year was big, as it allows him to be exposed.

It's kind of a moot point with Grabner, as he is a horrible hockey player and no team should want him.

yea. he was the 1 other guy I was thinking of protecting other than Nash. I think it depends more on how well Nash plays this year. he is scores 40 again, you have to protect him. if he scores below 20, then let him walk.

I feel like they would trade him for what they could get before burning a protection spot on him for a year of services

if he scores 40 goals I would think you HAVE to protect him. how many 40 goal scorers are out there? even at his age that is still a hard thing to find. last year there were 4 40+ goal scorers...
