It was a joke.

Pontiac used the same seats as well as the Monte Carlo.

The actual reason for the high front suspension was do to the fact car models were built the same to receive a heavy big block or lighter small block, also some add on accessories were quite heavy then, like A/C. This saved them from running custom lines.
