I've made my point clear numerous times. We have needed a number one Dman for years. Every cup winner has that one guy. Chara, Doughty, Letang, Keith. We don't have a number one guy. And we gave up our best trade chip to get a guy that "might" be a number 2 guy. If Larsson or Klefbom don't turn out then who do we trade for the next "maybe"? Drai? Pulju? I like most was ok with Hall going but it had to be for a number one guy. We didn't get anywhere near it.

Both Jones and Larsson perform similarly when it comes to offense, but Larsson is much better defensively. True story.

I don't know if we can call it a panic move since PC openly admitted that he had been asking about Larsson the previous year. The intent was there. Once Lucic made it clear that he would sign in Edmonton (would anyone really be surprised if such an agreement was reached before FA frenzy?) PC moved Hall knowing he had a 1st line LW coming in.

Is some of the above speculation? Yes. Just as Rishaug and others speculated that Jones could have been had for Hall.
In the end I choose to believe very (frank)ing little of what I hear from GM's and "analysts". They all say what is needed to be said to cover their own asses and drum up interest.

Yes many tunes have changed. Many here badly want Larsson to be the guy we've all been waiting for. Nothing wrong with that. And until proven otherwise he very well might be.

I believed he was a #1 when I watched him in Jersey. My tune hasn't changed now that he is an Oiler.

Well, I've been selling the idea of trading Hall for a package for years, so this isn't a huge departure

Once again, Larsson makes the team a better more complete team. Losing Hall is a loss yes, but sometimes you gotta lose a game to win the season (like dropping your last game of the season to face a lesser opponent in the first round). Hall will do well in Jersey, Larsson will do well in Edmonton, both teams increased significantly in areas of need. Let's let the season play out before an actual winner or loser is declared. No one will change Iggys mind that it was a horrible trade for the Oilers and that debate should be put to bed.if they won the cup he would say they could have gotten someone that would make them a dynasty instead. I agree completely. We effectively traded Hall of Hjalmarsson 2.0. Larsson may have some potential to develop offensively, but at this point its probably a long shot. I could stomach the trade a little better if it was Hall for Larsson + but as it is it's a bad trade.

Going into this offseason we needed two dman. One two-way defenseman to play in the top pair and QB the PP. The second that was shutdown defender to play in the top 4. We got the latter for Hall.

Once again, Larsson makes the team a better more complete team. Any half competent idiot could take our roster from a year ago, add McDavid and Puljuju and make the playoffs. The goal is a cup. Not to become the St Louis Blues or Caps or Sharks...good but never great teams.

PC has us going down the road of being a mid tier team that is good for a long time but never great and never close to a cup. Just because we've been out of the playoffs for a while doesn't mean you change the end goal. Some of you here are so starved for playoffs you forget the real purpose. And PC has us gunning for playoffs and not a cup. That's a big big problem.

I would trade Hall for Larsson even if we didn't have Lucic taking his place, which we do. Lucic is my favourite player in the league, second to only McJesus. Larsson I wish we would've drafted instead of Nuge. He's a first pairing guy already, and still young and improving. Capable of breaking up the cycle and making a good first pass out of the zone. Something we haven't had in quite some time. I wish Eberle would've gone instead of Hall but (frank) it, we got a 1st pairing guy. I'm happy with it. Of course we won't be a contender this year, but very soon we will be. We're gonna be exciting to watch this year.
