Expectation wise I can see Elliott stealing around 4-6 games for the Flames this year…will it be enough for the WC? Tough call. Elliott needs to prove he is more than a glorified back-up which he very well may do.

Flames first two lines are great and that D is stellar…but man if Treliving doesn't get that 3-4 line scoring sewn up soon could be another bottom 10 for Calgary.

I for one would love to see the battle of Alberta in the PO's again…If EDM gets another Dman of quality they will be in this year…Calgary needs to make more than a few bold moves to get to the WC.

The thing with the 3-4 line scoring is while it needs to become something that happens with a lot more frequency, the amount of offence from the back end gives them more leeway than most teams bottom 6

Elliott is a gamble that I like ...low cap hit and if he doesn't work than you go get a bishop or fleury or whoever

Dear Carol,

Thank you for the Lou update, I still expect to one day him in in the Ring of Honour only because onle cannot retire #1.

The other day I was wondering aloud that if and when the day comes that Lou needs to retire due to injury. Why would they the Panthers not put him up on Long Term Injury Reserve and trade his contract back to Vancouver for a mid to late round pick.

1. They get a free pick for a player who will not play again
2. We regain the 800,000 and lose nothing in present cap space due to his Long Term Injury
3. Lou does not even have to move here but stay in Florida and retire nicely.

Sounds like a win/win/win.

The only negative, and I am not sure this even is a negative is that Lou's contract on Long Term Disability may eat up one position at our 50 contract limit but I am not sure those on Long Term even count.

So what say you!

If he comes back don't you just get hit with the full recapture? $2.5M next year and $3.6M in 2018?

That's his prerogative to finish out the contract he & the team signed. I have zero problems with that.
- Marwood

Fair enough.

I always lumped him in with Jovo and Salo and think just where we would be now if he did not those these three guys for nothing.

Not if he in on LTIR... I think. That is my original question.... I am not smart enough to know the minutia of the rules.

Agree it's a good move. I wish the Flames would have went hard for Bishop but I understand the money issues.

So your owner pays full salary but you save some cap. I thought your owner was a bit Melnyk-esque

yup he was in tough with the two kids to sign ...next year they have a bunch of money freed up with guys like wideman, smid , Engelland, bollig and I think bouma all coming off the books ...could have potential to add a decent piece or two

I do not think teams pay players on LITR. Insurance does. I look to Pronger and Clarkson as examples. They do not count against the cap either.

Anyways, I am looking at the final few years not next year.

In all fairness to Lou he was lights out in the NSH and SJ series of 2011…and half of the Hawks/Bruins series. But that's Lou and we pretty much knew what we were getting. He has always been a 50/50 playoff guy and that will never change.

Well he needs to make the playoffs in Florida so he can be a lights out regular season legend and they would never know his darker side.

I had to double check the web page after reading this...

One man was dressed as a goalie, wearing a blocker, trapper and carrying a goalie stick.

“However, he may have been a defenceman or forward in disguise as he was wearing jersey #17 – a non-traditional number for goalies,” RCMP said in a news releas
