I know there aren't a lot of basketball fans on here, but reading that reminds me of when the Grizzlies brought in Antoine Carr and almost immediately he made an impact in the paint. No easy path to the hoop. Too bad he was at the end of his career.

But yeah, hoping Gudbranson sets the tone early.

But they already had Benoit Benjamin and Otis Thorpe.

was just wondering, will there be a trade freeze during the world cup of hockey?

I was working in Philly after Heisley bought the team and made the promise to do everything possible to keep the team in Vancouver. I was on a flight and Heisley was in 1st class. Had I known what a sheister he was I should have spit on him.

The big move? Bringing in an arthritic Popeye Jones as centre...

Looking back, I'm starting to see some similarities between Heisley and Trump...

That fecker singing the anthem. what a joke.

What a difference in leagues, I'd guess the Grizz had more success in Vancouver than the Yotes in Arizona.

The Vancouver version sold more tickets in the first 6 years than the Memphis version. The big loser was McCaw who lost $40 million when Stern poo-pooed the St. Louis deal because there was a bonus clause if the team moved.

Stern and Heisley then did an end around deal. Both of them are jerks IMHO. There was never any interest in trying to keep the team in Vancouver.

I can only see a Virtanen move if we're getting a Landeskog or something of that nature. The fanbase would literally riot if either Bo or Virtanen were traded and we don't win the trade by a mile. Benning really has very little wiggle room if he's going to do something that big to try and improve the team.

It's why I don't see any moves coming until TDL and possibly not even until the expansion draft. This is the year that Benning needs to show some results on the ice or he'll be fired at the end of the year, WD probably has about 20-25 games or he'll be fired. My guess is FA is getting pretty antsy since we've missed the playoffs 2 out of 3 years and isn't going to accept another lost year and top 10 pick.

If we make a move, it'll be depth in D for depth in forward and that depth will be in Utica to wait until injuries hit. I can't see a blockbuster on the horizon sadly, not with the team we have and the assets we have that we'd be willing to part with for what's available (and yes, I do admit there could be more available then what's been rumored, I just don't see it).

Benning isn't going anywhere.

Major shakeups or a total cluster(frank) needs to happen for a GM to be fired within 3 years. Not nearly enough time to judge ability or direction, especially when there is such a strong movement afoot

I always had fun going to basketball games here. had a couple jam packs, it was more affordable than hockey.

Feck the greed of stuffed suits.

Feck McCaw and Messier too.

For the most part I like what I have seen from Benning. I cant see a teams failings being put on his shoulders when what he has done is barely a drop in the barrel after 2 seasons. Not logical.

Total roster overhaul with youth and good drafting, he has earned that chance to keep building

It would have been nice if we were able to trade Shinkaruk + to Dallas for Nichushkin...
yep, still an intriguing player.

I still don't understand the Shinkaruk trade beyond the injury woes last season and acquiring another centre in Granlund. (I know, let it go)

Shinkaruk sucks...strange trade but who cares.

While I'm not overly high on shink I still find it funny how a week before that trade he was slotted in future top 6 spots with many on here ...day after the trade ...his defensive game sucks ...he's too small ...he's garbage ...

yep, strange trade, I'm still wondering how it works out with Granlund, the long range plans. Will he be 4th line centre? moved to the wing? will WD roll the lines and we end up seeing Dorsett on the Sutter line (three 3rd lines) and it turns into a shut down line? And Granlund playing with more offensive players?

a player that apparently fell in the draft with some question marks. potential is there but unproven. (

Fans see the little write ups on the teams website. some hope pinned to him.

you realize after he is traded that he wasn't looked upon highly by Green in the AHL or by JB.

and as a fan, you remember the similar story of Jordan Schroeder

I can't speak for my fellow posters but I was never high on him. I watched him play for Utica enough times to not be impressed with his skill level. He has a knack for the net so he deserves credit in that regard. In my opinion, if you are an undersized player you need a high level of skill to be successful. I just don't see it and I don't see his scoring translating to the NHL. With that being said, I still don't know why they targeted Granlund.

I have no idea what the plan is for Granlund...he deserves half a season to show if he has what it takes. People need to remember that he produced at a higher rate than Shink in the AHL. There is obviously skill there but who knows if he will ever produce for the Canucks. He better be training hard.

some players develop differently or peak at different times ...I guess that's why you can never be too excited for any prospect until they actually suit up in the NHL and show they are capable of being a difference maker

I honestly believe JB was hoping to get a similar prospect that was further along developmentally ...to try and speed things up

This is a big year for shink ...I think he could get decent opportunity to prove he is an nhler ...if he fails then he could be in Europe within a few years ...or at least not a flame

development and progress are always linear and steady. that's why we can confidently say what the new canucks' core is and that the rebuild is over!
