Acquire a Russian to bring back some folks from Belarus. That makes sense.

I guess Team Canada really screwed up.

They did, yes. They make some stupid choices every year.

For 12 years I heard about Nicklas Lidstrom declining and he was one of the best defensemen in the league even after he turned 30. He played a key role in 2 Cup winning teams after turning 30 as well as helping Team Sweden win gold in the 2006 Olympics. Weber will never be in Lidstrom's league but I don't see this so called decline in Weber's game. Now that he is in Montreal I see more fans seeing how good this player really is.

I think Corsi and analytics have it's place but I think it can be harmful too. Often it makes good players look bad and bad players look good. Numbers and stats can be used to prove the narrative of any argument.

Falling over in front of a puck because you lost it isn't really all that helpful.

It does when you consider the master plan is to use the Kostisyns to lure Saku Koivu back to Montreal so he can play with Yakupov

Stats give you a result, not the explanation that comes with them.

His shot suppression could have dropped because of how the rest of the team was playing or because they changed coach and the system made the players more vulnerable.

I'm not necessarely saying you're wrong, he might be declining, it would make sense considering he's 31 years old and it's bound to happen at some point, just that there might be other factors to consider. Either way, I'm not a huge chart guy, I'll wait and see but I'm still willing to bet Weber will have a great season with the Habs next year and prove alot of people wrong.

Time will tell who's right.

- Scabeh

Oh definitely, I agree there are a multitude of factors that are going to effect his (or any players) decline (age, team roster, physical play, coach, system, etc.) . And Just because I'm saying he is on the decline, does not mean he is not a good hockey player, but he is definitely not the stud that he once was. I think he'll have a good season in Montreal, I don't think it'll be great. I just don't like the idea that MTL traded a top 10, maybe top 5 D in the league at the beginning of his prime for a declining, aging, overpriced Weber (who is still a solid hockey player.)

Yeah Lidstrom was a Corsi god even in his very last years. He also didn't play the body or block shots very often.

Yak is worth a third round pick. He has little value based on his results and please don't make excuses Edmonton fans that he was used "improperly" He doesn't have a high value. Busts normally do.

Lidstrom also didn't play the physical game that Weber plays, which has been proven to show that players decline faster when they play a physical hard hitting style, as opposed to a finesse game, which helped Lidstrom's longevity greatly, oh, and he was one of the best D to ever play the game.

I completely understand.

The only difference in our opinion I guess is that to me, Weber is still that top 5-10 D in the league. So is Subban obviously.

I can't wait for the season to start to see how right or how completely wrong I was.

Weber doesn't crack the top 10. Maybe tail end of the top 20 sure.

Well if we compare most players to Lidstrom (or his Corsi) then they aren't going to look very good. I wonder if the Habs or their fans are worried about Weber's corsi? I guess Poile fleeced them.

Subban, who will be 28 before the season ends, is at the beginning of his prime and Weber, who just turned 31 last month is declining and aging? That is a small window between the 2 isn't it?

Yes. It's called regression. Also when you factor in playing style you notice certain style regress much more rapidly.

Funny when people don't know squat about their own team. Seguin was something forced on Chiarelli by Neely, and Boychuk had to be moved for cap reasons. What a horrible GM!

Maybe you should go watch the video released of by the Bruins of management trading Seguin. Chiarelli looks impossibly dumb.

Karlsson
Hedman
Subban
OEL
Letang
Burns
Lindholm
Giordano
Doughty
Vlasic
Klingberg
Keith
Ekblad

probably all D I'd rather have over Shea. Given age, contracts, production, and career trend. I would never SEEK out a player on the decline (if thats what you believe.)
