Being good at blocking shots really just means that you're really good at kind of making up for the fact that you're really terrible at exiting your own zone cleanly.

Hits are utterly worthless.

This one made me laugh. Maybe it's just the Edmonton ones that are god awful like Oilers.

https://Daysofyorr.com does pretty funny Bruins ones. Since the Bruins are now mediocre ca ca the sarcasm has intensified.

We're talking about the GMs who traded Hall for Larsson and Subban for Weber. Who knows what kind of clown fiesta of a trade they've got brewing.
- Helios

Just because Montreal's GM got the best of the trade with Nashville does not necessarily mean that he will be able to pull the rug over Peter C, you just have to wait & see!

Weber has not looked quite the same since 2014. Still a good defenseman but definately on a decline. The San jose nashville series was a disaster for weber

Rough spot for Chiarelli to be in.

He just obviously lost the Hall for Larsson trade in terms of "fair" value. Even tho I personally love the trade myself it certainly is a loss.

Now he needs to move out a former first overall that I personally don't believe will ever be part of the solution in Edmonton.

I fully believe Yak will be a solid NHLer through his career and still has the outside chance of having it all "click" and be a dynamic scorer. But I don't believe that will ever happen in Edmonton because of the massive wealth of clearly superior forwards in front of him.

There is no room on the Oilers for another one dimensional offensive style guy.

I believe fair value would be Montreal's first round pick next year. Yak is on a nice low cap deal with time remaining before he is a FA and is a young former first overall pick, albeit in a very weak draft year.

Or a solid pick and prospect. Or a solid two way depth player.

Hard to give up a former first overall even for any of what I mentioned. Yak still could end up the best player from his draft year, far too early to write him off. But he has clearly burnt his bridges in Edmonton.

For what it's worth, I believe his "decline" is considerably overhyped right now.

Everyone has that game 7 vs San Jose in mind but it's only one game. San Jose played great and Nashville had troubles but they still made it a series somehow with Weber being the most used D for them.

Weber will be great for the Habs next year, that's my guess. He will still be one of the best out there for a few years.

Guess time will tell.

Saying a stupid thing over and over wont make it true...

Yes he had a bad serie... doesn't mean he's declining..he 31 for **** sake, not 41...

Pronger at 36 was still great, before that stick to the eye...

Why was Toews happy to see Weber leave if he not like is former self ?

20 goals and 51 points last year
17th overall in blocked shots
13th in hits

....those stats don't matter anymore?

- obie

Just means you don't have the puck. Sure, the points are all fine and dandy, but if your shot suppression isn't even at a 3rd pairing level anymore.. what's the point?

The above data shows that he has been declining since 2011, but hey lets choose to ignore facts. None of my business.

Not at all, I have his charts that prove his shot suppression dropped from a 1st pairing D to below a 3rd pairing... sure looks like a decline to me.

Geneally, i agree on blocked shots; though I think there can be exceptions.

Problem I understand with hit stats is that they are so poorly kept from rink to rink that they become useless to draw any conclusions from.
