(frank) that piece of poop Hossa and everyone that looks like him. Screwed the Leafs for years when he took out Berard's eye - without so much as a penalty or a slap on the wrist. If he got hit by a bus tomorrow I'd do a jig. - winsix

Let's see
1) Kessel Drafted 5th overall , Pacioretty #22
2) Kessel has had seasons of 80 and 82 points, Pacioretti topped out at 67 - noting Kessel played with lesser players while in Toronto,
3) Pacioretti's only claim to fame was this:

IDK I was pretty pissed how Hossa got off easy after the Bryan Berard incident. Berard was one of our better defensemen.

While is is extremely sad and unfortunate that Berard suffered that eye injury, it seems that in the years since, the legend of Berard has grown and grown.
The truth is, he was a wildly inconsistent player. Just prior to the injury, Quinn had called him a "work in progress." - Atomic Wedgie
D-man - occasionally are great - right out of the gate - Bobby Orr was. Sometimes they take a few years to develop. Berard never got that chance because of that turd. Chris Pronger was not a great d-man his first couple of seasons in Hartford - that changed.

Berard got hurt his 5th year in the NHL.
I'm not saying he sucked.
I'm not saying he wouldn't have developed further and become a much more reliable defenceman.
What I am saying is that people tend to mythologize him due to his injury. The fact is at the time, he was wildly inconsistent.

Not irrelevant - Kessel went fifth because he has more talent - period. I have no love for Kessel - so your Montreal bias is not allowing you to make a rational assessment.
Kessel was one of the best players on the team that just won the cup, Pacioretty was one of the best players and the Captain of a dreadful team and he was part of the reason they were so poopty. Look at his plus minus for (frank) sake.
Was a weak attempt at humor - luckily he did not get hurt. - winsix
So by your logic, every player who was drafted at a higher number has more talent than others drafter after them? There are so many examples of players being drafted in the top 5 who ended up being worst players than players drafted later on? Hell Datsuyk was like a 6th round pick, does he suck? And Kessel was drafted in 2005, Pacioretty in 2007... this whole point is foolish.
While I disagree with your point on Pacioretty and the whole meaning of the +/- stat, his whole team had a horrible season and he still managed to get over 30 goals and over 60 points, I expect more out of him next year and wouldn't be surprised to see him go back to his usual +/- stats which is usually much, much higher.
At least the argument of Kessel rising his level of play during the playoffs makes sense to me, you should stick to that.

I'm going to Nashville for a Preds and Titans game in November. Looking forward to it - heard that city is a lot of fun. - RickJames77
It is - you'll have a blast. Friendly folks, good food scene, and the best live music bar culture (and not just Country) around, with all due respect to Austin.
