I don't what they're doing when they make roster sections
Also, team NA really (frank)s is over. - RickJames77
Yeah, but if they didn't pick a bunch of scrubs and leave some of the best freaking players in the world off of their team...
What's that? Faulk and Shattenkirk are legitimate top pairing defensemen? Better not choose them. We need room for Jack (frank)ing Johnson. |

Sure, I'm biased, but I really don't know how you could leave Kessel off the list.
He excelled at the Olympics, and then had a phenomenal Stanley Cup playoffs this year.
Maybe he did something on the Olympic squad that pissed off Hockey USA, but FFS, from this outside point of view, they've made a huge mistake. - Atomic Wedgie
Agreed. Apart from Kane and Pavelski, is there really anybody whose name you would put down ahead of Kessel's...??? |

I can see why Thornton did, as he just had another fantastic season. Having seen him play up close a few times last year, there really are very few who can control a game like him - he's an absolute joy to watch as a neutral.
Carter... meh. There's definitely better options. |

Doubt Matthews, McDavid and Eichel will be on the same line since they are all centers. |

I seriously don't know why Johnson is on this team.
Faulk is amazing man... the fact he's not there is beyond me. |

Maybe by the end of the tourney but I bet Mathews starts off on a lower line in favour of NHL experience players ...I could see him make his way up the lineup tho - Redmile247
It's a short tournament , don't think he will play much at all but will be good for him to see how the stars prepare and work |

In a weird sort of way, this tournament is a great way for Matthews to break into the NHL.
It's going to be at a very high level skills-wise, but I don't really think anyone will be looking to make big hits. |

Nah, I still have Kessel ahead of Pacioretty. People say lots about Kessel, but he's almost PPG in the postseason and had a strong showing last Olympics (he's close to PPG in internationals too). |

SY has $6.6M left and needs to sign Kuch and Nesterov this year. The others are next year FAs. That was after buying out Carle. No LTIR relief in sight either. Signing UFAs like Callahan and Filipula to large, long contracts definitely bites.
Leafs' Martin contract might bite due to length but generally their contracts seem to be pretty good with Nonis gone. - Leafsandbolts
Bishop's $6 million is off the books next year - will probably allow the signing of one of Drouin or Tyler but not both. Hedman's salary increases by close to $4 million next year. As far as Leafs go Martin's contract of $2.5 million is not a major concern - particularly with close to $20 million coming off the books next year. In addition you have another $10 million in Lupul and Bozak which will likely be traded or moved by next year some time. Leafs have lots of room.

Fair enough, but I like Pacioretty more, he's been a more consistant scorer in the last 3 years and is very reliable defensively as well.
Either way, Kessel should be on the team no doubt about it. |

Well, if defense was their concern they might have started by selecting some actual D-men.
Plus, part of the reason that Kessel is as good as he is is because he manages to play without taking too many checks. Kessel is similar to Patty Kane in that regard. |

Agree with you - Kessel far superior to Pacioretty - one of the best wrist shots in hockey major plus.

Far superior? Really? How so?
Edit: Pacioretty is just as good of a goal scorer (if not better as of today), is considered a very complete two-way players and heals from injuries faster than wolverine. |

It's the Canadian bias.
We always take our best players and make them centres.
It's why Canada hasn't produced a good winger in 40 years (except Kariya, maybe a few others).
And it's why players like Kessel get so much hate - Canadians expect their wingers to backcheck like centres. No other country thinks that way.
If Bure was a Canadian, he would have been booed out of the rink. Hell, he would have been forced to change how he played in peewee. |

Pacioretty is more of the finisher. Kessel typically puts up more assists. They'd probably complement each other quite well on the same line TBH |
