Basically have Team USA's entire future D corps with those two, Slavin and Pesce.

Unreal how good Slavin was last year. Absolutely unreal.

The weird thing about Marner is Toronto fans always over-rate their prospects.

No, seriously, it's embarrassing how much we over -rate our prospects. We declared Dubas the greatest hockey mind of all time, 20 minutes after the 2015 draft. Hunter is apparently playing chess while the rest of the NHL is still playing checkers.

But in a weird sorta way, I'm thinking that Leafs fans are actually under-rating Marner, or at least not giving him his full due.

The guy franking won everything last year. Yet we still rank him below Matthews and Nylander.

I'm not saying that he deserves to be ranked ahead of Mathews (I personally put him above Nylander) - I'm just saying it's very weird to not hear Leafs Nation homers say that this guy could be the next Gretzky.

I would have thought that a large majority of Leafs fans would be blowing blue smoke up his arse right now.

I'm starting to lose faith in Murphy though.... expected him to break through last year.

Too crowded. He'll get his chance this year and will run the 2nd PP unit.

I was salting some minnows for fishing (then freezing them) and I had to add a half cup of pickling salt per gallon of water..

I had no idea what a gallon of water looked like, just guessed...I bet those minnows are some salty female doges though.

I'll talk with Leafsman - force everyone to once again make their Leafs predictions, and we will lock the thread 1 hour before puck drop of the season opener.

I'm so franking pumped for the home opener this year. Apparently it's going to be a mega sound and light show featuring the history of the Leafs. I've been planning my outfit for months!

Of course, it means a 7 hour pre-game ceremony, after which the Leafs will come out flat and lose 6-1.

Sigh.

Boston.

But if I had my way, it would definitely be Montreal.

There's a few tiers when it comes to Leafs game opponents:

1. Montreal. So many ex-pat Montrealers (damn anglos who moved to Toronto in the 1960s-70s). And as much as I'd like to call them P.O.S. for not supporting their adopted home, it's hard to blame a guy for not dumping the late 1970s Habs to start cheering for the Leafs. Always a great atmosphere.

2. Ottawa, Buffalo. Good rivalries.

3. Philly. It's weird. You get a lot of meatheads who still embrace the Broad Street Bully mentality. Guys from Scarborough or North Bay who sign over their pay cheque for a pair of tickets. Forgive me for sounding like an absolute bastard, but they are a lower class than your typical Leafs fan. And about 100 lbs. heavier. Makes for a lively crowd, with a weird tension.

4. All other Canadian teams. Put Vancouver at the top of that list.

5. Boston, New York Rangers, Chicago.

6. Everybody else.

Spot on. I didn't really think about it until you brought it up but the kid did WIN EVERYTHING.

I'm going to guess the reason no blue smoke is going up his 5 hole right now is:

1. Not sure he will be on the big club yet. I think if he doesn't make the club this year....next year he will be getting serious blue smoke....copious amounts of blue smoke.

OR

2. If he was 6'2" people would be drooling over this kid and he would be talked about right beside Matthews. I, personally, don't care about his size and still think he's a bit of a late bloomer. Again, if he doesn't make the big club this year, when his height and weight stats come out next spring....copious blue smokeious.

Marner.

Marner gets overlooked because of his size. I would rate him ahead of Nylander but behind Matthews because he played this past season with a seriously stacked team. Matthews did ok on Team USA and played mostly with a substandard national team. Matthews is the best prospect the Leafs have had in my lifetime period. Hopefully he lives up to the talent. That having been said, can't wait to see them play.
