Hey guys, who do you think will overachieve for the Flames this year and who do you see underachieving for Calgary?
- Marwood

Oh can I go first??

Somebody will finally catch up to little Jonny (Tree) and he will be out of the league by xmas. Also, Elliot will make Flames fans wish Ramo was still their guy.

You asked your Flames buddies about the Canucks?

I will pick Gundbranson. He is playing for a new team and a contract so he will be highly motivated. I seem him wrecking players in our zone and chipping in with 15-18 points. He will be named Henriks successor next summer. Hansen will drop off.

- CanuckDon

Whoa that's a bold statement, I don't see him as Hanks replacement next year, but do agree he will be highly motivated, especially after all the advanced stats say he's crap.
Overachieve.....Sutter he has something to prove after last season.
Underachieve...Eriksson, everything I've read, people expect 30+ goals from him and I think he may struggle in the western conference.

A lot of high hopes going into this season. I think a lot of people are going to end up being disappointed.

I dont know if he will hit 30, but I expect 25+ from him. He put up high goal totals with a mediocre Dallas team before going to Boston, so I think the adjustment wont be as steep particularly if he remains healthy

I do agree about his tenure in Dallas but I should have been more precise in identifying the pacific division, LA, Anaheim, and San Jose are big bodied teams and Eriksson does have two concussions. That's why I chose him over Etem who I would have picked 1st, because he has said the same preseason statement about "applying himself and knowing what needs to be done to make the next level" and it never seems to be realized.

But this is the beauty of the question from Redmile, it's individuals personal perception on a hypothetical situation.

Like most seasons with the majority of clubs it's all about the injuries for the Nucks this year. We have the top 9 forwards and top 4 D to contend for a WC spot IMO. Miller remains a mystery and Markstrom (to me) hopefully will be 'our guy'by seasons end.

If we have 4-8 starters out by Jan-Feb we are screwed. We just don't have the depth or development yet to deal with deep injuries. We'll be bottom 10 for sure if we are banged up.

I think you Canucks fans win either way. IF you make the playoffs great, if you don't you still get to enjoy an infusion of youth and hopefully a more exciting brand of hockey. The consolation prize could be that true No 1 center prospect your team so desperately needs

Edit. And my consolation prize will be Vegas scooping future allstar Gaunce in the expansion draft

He's been saying the same thing from the day he was drafted.

It is a good question, everyone has their own expectations for each player

I agree on the concussion concerns, thats why I think his production will depend on his health. Also age plays into it for me, he could be ready for the decline at a moments notice. Side note: he played for Dallas when they were in the Pacific Divison with the Ducks, Kings, Coyotes and Sharks when you could argue that they were the worst team in the division

I just don't see a big jump from third last to a playoff spot. I'm looking forward to seeing a better defense and maybe a forward or two surprising. As long as they continue to gradually improve then I'm happy.

Personally I'm looking forward to a bunch of kids, Virtanen Horvat Baertschi Tryamkin Hutton, taking the next step in their NHL careers. If there's a measurable improvement I'll be happy.

I don't expect them to make the playoffs, there'll be lots of highs and lows over an 82 game/6 month schedule, but I do expect them to take a step forward, not backwards.

I'm expecting to be entertained and if they can't do that we'll probably get a new logo.
