Next year will be his second full season of professional hockey, I can't imagine a scenario in which he'd be exempt. - eichiefs9
All first- and second-year professionals, as well as all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits).
Only his 2nd pro year so he's exempt.
Defenseman Brady Skjei, the Rangers' first-round pick in the 2012 draft (28th overall), has signed an entry level contract with the Hartford Wolf Pack. He will report to AHL affiliate on an amateur tryout since the entry level deal does not begin until next season.
His 14-15 AHL games were on an amateur tryout so they don't count as a pro year.
They named 4 alternates. Does that signal they're extending him? I don't think so - junaka3
I wouldnt be surprised if they re-signed Shattenkirk after all this and traded Stastny
Fabbri is up for good now and they will probably slide him back to his natural position soon at center (had him on the wing most of last year as I recall)
Stastny only this year and next left on his deal so might not be too hard to move even with a $7 mil hit

Stastny has a full NMC. Use the internet better, pea-brain.
Question.. Why only a few years back Ranger fans that I spoke to, "Girardi, our best defender!" And today, "Buy him out!"
What happened in this time?
I always liked him and gladly would have taken him to the Devils. He gives his body, blocks countless pucks... Why would you wanna get rid of a guy like that?

Well its a business, and I can't see a scenario where they would have to protect Staal and Girardi and let McDonagh be claimed by Vegas. If they did protect McDonagh along with those two we would be losing a pretty good forward most likely. His age, wear and tear and contract make him the most likely player for a buyout. I personally think he will be better than last year(injuries) but I also think the type of game he plays is really catching up to him.
No one knows the next move the Rangers will make . Most of these moves are coming out of left field . The so called insiders had no clue on any of the Rangers moves besides the Eric Staal debacle . I for one love the Direction this team is going . At the end of the season I was more bummed out than usual with them and I've been a fan since the early 60's . But Gorton has change that around for me fast . LGR

If business related, I get it. But maybe I'd let Staal get claimed/traded before Girardi. All the Staals are way overrated and overpaid. But I'm a hater, so take that as you want.
If you are an honest Ranger fan, un-biased, do you think Hank will win a cup with the Rangers?

I would not be against trading Staal at all, but the return will be crap, and he has an NMC.
Who knows regarding Hank winning a cup. I honestly believe you just have to get to the playoffs and any team that is playing well and lucky(injuries, players streaking, etc) has a chance. As a fan I have to believe he will, but there is no guarantee.

Can people with NMC/NTC be available during expansion draft, or not eligible?
