When you consider the alternative of keeping him and protecting him it isn't bad at all.

Protect: Step, Kreider, Zucc, Miller, Zibby, Hayes, Lindberg, McD, Staal, McIlrath, and Hank?

I'd imagine they'd protect Skjei over Staal

If you did it that way then you could only protect 4 forwards.

They want the expansion team to be competitive quicker, which sucks for fans of the other 30 teams who will probably lose a good player.

Staal still has a NMC, so it'll be required

Rangers would have to protect Skjei & McDonagh. Its not even a question

Next year will be his second full season of professional hockey, I can't imagine a scenario in which he'd be exempt.

Well he would be a 2nd year professional right? So I'm assuming he would be exempt.

Staal has NMC and as it stands now Skjei wouldn't need to be protected.

Read the Rangers are going with the unorthodox lineup of 16 forwards and 2 d.

All kidding aside don't see how anyone can say this is a negative signing unless the off ice/locker room issue rumors are true, which I doubt.

The Rangers forward depth seems impressive. Only worry is if buch would really go back if not in nhl, but If that's the case I'm sure he'll get his minutes.
