When was the last time a defenseman won the Calder besides Ekblad 2 years ago? Seems like a pretty difficult thing to do.
I know Leetch did, and I think Myers? |

what? this isn't bias its just extremely unlikely that any team has 3 guys contending for the calder. most years there is only really a discussion for 6 guys (some of which end up being surprises) so anointing your team with 3 right off the bat seems like homer ism more than anything |

Myers in 09-10, Barrett Jackman in 02-03, Bryan Berard 96-97, and Leetch |

Really.
I know Berard had a phenomenal rookie season with the Isles, just can't remember if he won. |

dude what are you talking about? you didn't even my reference my argument at all. I'm just saying its rare that a team has 3 guys contend for the calder. Can you name a team in recent years that had 3 guys in the top 7 voting of the calder? i'm not saying they all won't be good, contributing players (although i have my doubts about vesey) but most calder contenders are either first or second line players who put up big numbers or defenders who also put up a lot of points |

the forwards who have won the calder have been averaging over 60 points in a full season (somewhere around 65) and the defenders who won have been avergaing around 45 points. so you think all 3 of those players will reach those point totals? |

You're overthinking this. He's not saying all 3 are going to be nominated it or that even 1 will be. All he's saying is that when the NHL does their mid-year trophy tracker, there's a chance all 3 of them will be amongst the "honorable mentions", maybe. |

Skjei would be a long shot, just for the fact he is a defenseman, and after last years overall crappy defense, I think he will be really concentrating on his defensive side of the game.

Jacob Slavin was 10th in Calder voting last season
that made him "in the conversation"
this isn't rocket science |
