My opinion is that if you put Doughty on the Senators and Karsson on the Kings things would be different.

Claude Giroux was a -8 this year, yet everyone who watches him has noticed how much more defensive responsibility and dedication to defensive play there was this year. He got Selke votes...how does that happen as a -8?

Using +/- as a way to evaluate an individual, unless it's at the far end of the spectrum, seems like a mistake to me. Sure, it should be considered, but it has as much to do with every other player on the ice, as well as team depth, than merely an individual's play.

it is okay if you just talk about goals scored while on the ice...you just can't use the +/- symbol I believe. We really should ask Tanner

Doughty would make the Senators a much better defensive team. Karlsson would have to adapt his game, and play within the Kings structure. Karlsson may not put up as many points, but probably will be on the ice for less goals against. In my opinion, I would not make that swap of players if I was LA though.

I would have to say one of my favs was Vaclav Pletka. 2 season with the Phantoms and I thought he would make the team and be a solid forward, one of the MANY reasons I never became an NHL scout.

He sure doesn't seem like a guy Hexy and Hak would be interested in.

You know...in a vacuum, and taking things like salary out of the equation, and speaking strictly for hockey ability, I wouldn't trade Doughty for Karlsson, either. I think he is a more complete defenseman, and I really can't see many people arguing that. That said, for last season alone, I though that Karlsson's play, all things considered, was better than Doughty's. That may seem like a contradiction, but it's how I feel.

I was thinking about him. Dude had a lot of hype, and I'm pretty sure he played a handful of games in the NHL (he at least has some rookie cards from 01/02). Just never went anywhere.

I think the point you're trying to make is that it certainly helps winning awards like the Norris to play on a top winning team. Can't discount that Doughty is a huge reason why LA is as good of a team as they've been.
