Chiarelli did what winners do......he took a risk. He addressed a need. With McDavid now, Hall is no longer Hall. He got what he needed.

Guess what: Losers take risks too and nobody pats them on the back and says good job.

It didnt mesh well, Ladd was force fed 1st line bc of the trade but that line had issues producing at a scoring rate, Panarin-AA-Kane was really the 1st line scoring machine
- Ur Not Me

If 8g, 12pts in 19 games playing mostly on that line is the result of force feeding someone onto a line that "he didn't mesh on", then I can't wait to see what he does if he meshes with Tavares.

Oh. Well if all we need to do is "figure out the rest", the rest being "finding a top pairing defenseman that can play in all situations and log huge, important minutes", then I guess we'd be fine.

Generally if you're defense of doing something is "just do it and figure out the rest later", you probably shouldn't do that thing because that means you don't really have a plan and that's not smart.

I think what hes trying to say is you make a trade with a dman who's not a top 20 in the league, for a top 5 RW, just like when you draft you take the best possible player regardless of position.

And losers also stay status quo and draft, and draft, and hoard. It works both ways. Do you wanna be the guy who strikes out looking, or swinging. Cause for me, im swinging for the fences.

If there main F's stay healthy, I guaranty they make PO's

meaning no long term injuries to their main top 6...

- Ur Not Me

I don't see it. unless someone drops off in the metro, I don't see the devils within 10 pts of a division seed and likely 8 pts off a wild card spot at the end of the year.

Yeah except drafting the BPA doesn't leave a colossal hole elsewhere. The plan to fix which is "meh, well worry about it when it becomes a problem".

Can we really use the phrases mortgaging the future when you've been at the helm of a rebuild for 10 years?
- kindlyrick

Yes it was a long rebuild but a lot of that was due to no quality FA's wanted to come play here. And thanks to Milbury our farm system was non existent. So he did have to start from scratch.

I am not defending him. I think he has done some good things and some bad things. I'm just saying if his job is really on the line he has to be doing everything he can.

But again, you keep going back to this notion that I'm advocating for not doing anything at all and I never even insinuated that once.

I want Snow to be out there trying to improve the team, I just happen to think that he can find a very good winger that can play with Tavares AND keep Hamonic. Which would make for a better all-around team than getting Taylor Hall by himself.

What has been the isles plan? Hamonic is replaceable regardless of what some may think. His only value is that he's on a friendly contract and that he's a 2nd pairing dman. Maybe if Snow signed Vanek/Boyle this team may not be as good ? Lets thank those players for not accepting.....

I think what this all boils down to is this :

Snow was Wangs GM. Wang did not care about winning, and his staff shows. Garth Snow does not have this job for 10 years under Ledecky.

Not pulling the trigger on that trade tipifies what Snow lacks which is balls.

If you don't think Hamonic has more value to this team than an affordable contract then I can't help you. I'm extremely grateful that you aren't the Islanders GM, or else we'd basically be the Minnesota Wild.

PA Parenteau was signed because we needed a RW and acquiring one that we would have had to either protect or lose in the expansion draft would have been short-sighted and stupid. PA is gone after this year and I am nearly positive that a top-6 RW will be priority #1 on Snow's list.

You can say that Snow doesn't have balls, but if you don't think that the looming expansion draft is playing a major role in all teams roster decisions then you're wrong.

Ladd with JT 60pts ?? or more?
- Ur Not Me

I'd say 50-60pts is a pretty fair estimate for Ladd. He's managed to be pretty much consistently at-or-around that range playing typically with garbage in WPG/ATL. I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised to see him exceed 60pts if he's healthy all year either.

I think they'll be about the same. Losing Frans hurts, but Chimera > Martin and Ladd > Okposo. Islanders may have lost a tad of offensive production but they got much better in terms of two-way play. If the goaltending stays consistent with last year, I have no doubt that they can't accomplish what they did last season.

ahhhh the old expansion draft argument. As if teams dont have paid people to figure out options. How about this. How about you dont sign PA. You pull the trigger on the Hamonic for Hall deal, and then you trade 2 prospects and picks to the Devils for Larsson.

Lets also remember when Frans Nielson the teams best two way forward lost his man in Game 7 to lose the game. See ya Franzy..

I think we finish with 104-106 pts if we don't lose a key player to a long term injury (JT, Leddy, Boychuk, Hamonic etc)

My guess if all are healthy is that Ladd finishes with 30g, 25-30 assists.

Teams do not typically trade within their division. Especially for a name like Larsson. The Devils GM would get slaughtered by the teams fans and the media.
