I seriously doubt that. - winsix
Not for th leafs. I don't think there is a big flood of fans jumping ship if a new team came about. |

If a 2nd team were to come about, I think that the bell/Rogers group would split and one becomes full owner of the leafs and the other leaves and becomes owner of new team. - burn
Can't imagine either would jump at the chance to not print money anymore. Especially with things starting to look up with the Leafs |

And that may be true too.
But what if they aren't getting along? What if one of them feels like they can make money with the new team, maybe not as much but enough to make worthwhile? |

Screw a second Toronto team. There's a great city, with a thriving population that can handle a NHL team in southern Onatrio. Plus, it's far enough away from Toronto, Buffalo, and Detroit so there won't be any vetoes. Waterloo Wolves, anyone? - Steven_Seagull
Not likely that a high roller company like Rogers or Bell would want a showpiece NHL franchise operating anywhere but a major center. For that reason GTA is the only reasonable possibility. Logistically - If the NY can support three teams - in a market where Hockey is probably the fourth choice in sports, you would have to believe Toronto would support two teams and sell out both venues handily.

You shall henceforth be known as "Dream-Killer." I'm not gonna explain the reason, but let's just say you made a grown bird cry...not telling who, though. |

They wouldn't jump at it - the key to any negotiation would be that any offer from one party would be acceptable as compensation by the party making the offer. In partnerships its called a shotgun clause.

Wouldn't it be like the Sens? But with slightly higher ticket prices. Where they getting their true fans from? That fan base would never develop. It'd be full of people just wanting to watch an NHL game. They'd never sell a jersey. |

Not at all - as popular as the Leafs are in TO - there are plenty of hockey fans that root for other teams in the GTA - lots would migrate to a new team. The bigger issue would be - what to do with the Raptors?

true story.
One time when I was a kid, say 10. I had this plastic snorkel. So I had heard about blowjobs somewhere, maybe Mr. Jenkins was telling me what was happening, I don't know. Anyway, I thought I'd be able to give myself a blow job by sticking my willy into one end of plastic tube and sucking the other. Well, lil' willy was a bit too big. So I decided to wait a bit, put it in flacid to see if that would work. So I get some of mom's vasoline, and try. Still...not working. So I pull the end apart as if I could bend this plastic out. Well...unbeknownst to me, there was already a split up the side of the tube. So I slid willy in thinking this is gonna be great. Let go. Ended up getting my shaft pinched when the crack closed up. Man did that ever suck. |

I have a hard time seeing it.
The deal is bigger than the leafs. . MLSE has the rest of the market cornered right now – raptors, lacrosse, concerts, events etc … in the best location.
Seems like Bells/Rogers have all the revenue as is. I’m not sure the +$1B investment and additional operating costs of a 2nd building would be worth the additional revenue from 41 home games and 82 tv broadcasts.
