While I agree his system change a line combo change ( the bonino line ) were works of genius, I think he still had the players available to engage the system ...without the proper players it doesn't matter how good of a coach you are the team will fail ...insert Babcock joke now ....it's not like the pens strategy was all that complicated but just highly effective ...he had a questionable D core with a letang and a bunch of high skill and speedy forwards ...everytime their D got the puck it was flipped out to the wingers who had already fled the zone ...he utilized the speed while giving their D a very simple job

absolutely that pens have a good players in the lineup....in fact some elite players. Crosby and malkin certainly are elite. Letang as well. Having assets like that make life much easier when you have truly industrial tools like that. Not just skill but drive. I do think kessel is better with the pens for that reason alone, having learned drive and dedication from players like that. THe winning pedigree.
However your statement above is limited. Coaches have done it before, so your statement is incorrect. Is it likely? not really...you'd have to be a really crafty coach. But it HAS been done before. Try not to speak in absolutes.

Yes, New York, the Florida teams, and the California teams have an advantage. Also, Chicago. Players are drawn to great Cities as well as warm climates with no media presence/ fan pressure.

I think Nashville will be the next FA hotspot. With the no income tax benefit, plus the reputation of Nash-vegas and their Smashville fans and some anonymity. Of course dependent on the owners paying to the cap

Yes, Nashville will probably become popular. The Canadian Cities are certainly at a disadvantage. Although, some players may choose Van as its a nice City to live in. If I was a player I would certainly choose to play in obscurity in LA

So basically your telling me that there is a coach out there somewhere that can turn each team in the NHL into cup winners with the correct system ?

Rangers really benefit from being the team in New York, always an attractive option for players

Side note: Looks like Green is safe, Av's hire their AHL coach

tsn states he was from columbus's system not their own

it has happened before yes....but I would be careful to say any team in the nhl. Sometimes the lineup is filled with bad moods and attitudes or fighting amongst the roster. So no not ANY team for that very reason. Intangibles.

Im saying its possible and that it has happened before.
Dont minimize the coaches role, its often more involved than many realize. Remember the pens last 2 cup wins were immediately following a head coaching change

You are correct, Lake Erie was their farm team previously. I didnt realize they changed last summer. I am also too lazy to see if the new coach was the same one there when the Avs prospects played there

I am a bit biased, but if I had to pick a Canadian city I think Van wins. Montreal is nice, but I think the fans are too rabid for the NHL lifestyle.

I havent visited enough US cities to say, but New York or Chicago would probably be my tops. I am not a huge warm weather fan

Hi,

New blog is up, looking at the Avs, the Arizona/Florida trade and Brandon Pirri - a New York Ranger?
