Somebody is going to get hurt at this stupid gimmick. Fans are going to be pissed when Player X of Team Y is going to miss real NHL games. I'd be thrilled for Hall not going. Keeps him focused on the Devils.

Yep. I am a huge hockey fan and I'm not even looking forward to this. Not even one bit.

1. it's in a horrible time of year. Sure it may be 'best on best', but they aren't at their best in early Sept.
2. young stars? team 'rest of europe'? What anthems are they going to play for these guys? How can you have a 'world cup' with teams that aren't representing a country?
3. Injuries as you've said. At least one star is going to get some sort of significant injury. That's pretty much a guarantee. I'm sure the seasons ticket holders of whatever team it is are going to be just elated.

This whole thing is such a mega cash grab, it's ridiculous. If the NHL really cared about a World Cup, they would shorten the season by 10 games and have it in the middle of the year, when the players are actually playing their best.

I find it a little bit funny that this has really not been brought up here much, but Hall has had some personal issues that have affected him.

It seems to me that Edmonton players play in a bit of a vacuum. Everyone in Edmonton (well, under 40 anyway) knows that Hall, Everle and 'Nuge were all heavily into the nightlife. And when I say nightlife, I mean 'partying'....and by that I mean they enjoy their substances. That core needed to change for more reasons than one.

Last year when they got lucky and drafted McDavid they assigned Hall to be his roommate, hoping that McDavid would help the situation. Kind of the opposite, right? Normally the vet is supposed to help the rookie....anyway, it helped but it didn't stop it from happening.

This the Hall trade. These other teams are not stupid....if I know about it, then certainly they do too. Of course Hall deserves to be on Team Canada based on his play. DUH. But he isn't being snubbed for his play.

Now, did Edmonton trade Hall away just because of this? No. In fact, they were stupid enough to bring in Kassian, who is also a coke-pig, to their environment. Just dumb. But this certainly did affect the value that Hall had on the market. This is also we they can't seem to give 'Nuge away.

Again....if I know about this stuff, other teams do too.

How credible am I? I live and work in Vancouver and have been around Kassian enough to know. I also am in Edmonton a LOT and have clients who have told me all about their boys and their habits. None of it surprises me....I used to live n Winnipeg and I have seen guys like Brandon Reid, Fedor Fedorov and Alex Auld snort more than a bull about to be released in a bull riding match.

So there....now you know it.

I'm actually going because why not ? It may be the first and the last one. The ticket prices are ridiculously cheap minus usa verse canada. Anddddd team north america actually looks like a ton of fun. What are the young guys playing for ? Pride. I think they'll be the most exciting team personally.

It's all good. You don't need to believe a thing, and I can only assure you that it IS the case. If somebody wants to tell me that they live there and don't know this, then that individual is either not being honest, or lives under a rock.

I actually believe that this happens with a ton of players in many different markets. The problem in Edmonton, is that it is the core of the team and that sends a message to all of their other players.

I honestly believe that McDavid will change the culture there. It is like playing with Crosby, in Pittsburgh everyone plays hard...plain and simple. When you play with a superstar things tend to change. McDavid will likely do that to this team.

And for anyone who thinks that I am disparaging Edmonton in general, please note one thing....I like the Oilers. I am hoping that they get it together and I think they will. I actually believe that Larsson is a great addition and that Lucic will be a monster, as long as he manages to stay in McJesus' line.

No doubt about it. Hall should have been on the team... but Hockey Canada is an old boy's club and Hall must have irritated someone...

Hockey Canada is filled with spiteful f*ks... those pos should be fired. all of them for the contemptuous decisions they've made over the years in spiting certain players. Ever since Bobby Hull was left off of team canada until now those scum have played favourites... in some manner or the other...

I'd believe your account of things over what the other people on here wrote... lots of people stay indoors at night once they get married or hit age 27/ 28 cuz they aren't the kind to go out and see what's happening... or even if they do go out, they don't know anybody whose into anything to fill them in on the scene...

I'm not surprised.... I remember when Steve Yzerman was cut from team Canada in Canada cup in 90's I think the coach was Mike Keanan..... Then when Team Canada WAYNE GRETZKY BENCHED IN SHOOT OUT!!!!!!..... So Taylor Hall being cut or excluded is not surprising or shocking !

Not a snub at all, couture just offers much more then point production. T Hall is an elite point producer but that's not the whole game. Especially not the way Babs wants it played.
