Meh, I'm not too worried yet. There was never any question that Monahan wanted to sign here long term and we just signed him last week. These things take time and I don't think there's much chance of Johnny holding out into the pre-season.

Flames are probably trying to get under 7 for 7 years and Johnny's probably asking for well over 7 to go any more than 6 years. They'll eventually meet somewhere in the middle, it's not like their are reports of either side being completely unreasonable.

All due respect Cordell, but I am not one of your fans. You cling to analytics as your only hockey perspective, and your judgments on players lack context. You keep harping on Monahan's overrated defensive abilities whilst completely ignoring the fact that he has been logging minutes as the Flames' first line center since he was what 19?

Gaudreau doesn't so much want more money as his agent is pushing for the best deal his client can get.

Kinda obvious Todd is not a huge Flames fan. But in the long run it is a hell of a lot better having a blog to talk about every couple days rather than hopefully once per week. I am not a stats guy at all (except for +/- best stat ever!!!) but at least try to learn something from it.

But, here is an idea. Post more and start more conversations. Even if they are incendiary.

If you keep posting at the rate of once/month I am going to assume that your menstrual cycle is acting up.

OK. I predict Monahan will end up being more valuable to the Flames' success than Gaudreau. He deserves a lot more credit than he's getting.

One thing that people don't seem to appreciate: At 21 he has 15 GWG (on a lousy team) - better than every other player less than 23 years old. If you include 23 year olds only Brandon Saad has more GWGs - 17.

Wonder how many of those goals came off a pass from JG? But yes, coming through in clutch situations is the sign if a true leader and captain. I think although JG will take a lot of the spotlight and credit, SM will be the guy that wins small battles to make it all happen.

I also agree that SM has done well given the amount of responsibility being thrown at him. Give the kid some time to develop his defensive game. Lets see how he does with better goaltending and more stable Dcorps, its not like both Hudler and JG are defensive stalwarts. He has had to go up against some stiff competition and as long as he keep progressing I am not worried.
