Yeah I'm not sitting here trying to tell anyone that the Panthers are bad, they're a real solid team. But I just think that the NHL's MSM & bloggers are way higher on them then they should be.

Mainstream media is irrationally obsessed with young players. Anyone ages 22 and under are like Jesus to them. A team full of them like the Panthers give the media a full chub. Same for teams like Toronto, Buffalo, and now Arizona. It's so facking stupid. Potential is more important than proven experience. Any player age like 28 is considered a declining scrub.

And the bloggers/twitter guys are all obsessed with analytics. So of course they're going to rave about any team that has shown some potential and openly says that they rely on them heavily.

The Panthers are a promising team, I'm just not ready to start treating them like the next great team in the NHL.

To be fair, the Islanders along with the Blue Jackets got the exact same media hype and treatment for the exact same reasons 2-3 years ago.

Like him on the 4th line. High energy player, uses the body and can pot a few.

Yup. I'm having trouble completing the 3rd/4th lines. I like a couple of these players.

The Jackets were in decent shape had they stayed the course. Instead they thought they were better than they were and (frank)ed it all up.

Then hired Torts and he did what he has always done.

He's a pretty great energy guy just don't expect him to score much. Really physical and fast but his hands are made of gelatin.

I'm one of a few people who really liked Torts I guess. Don't get me wrong, when he was fired I was thrilled because he became stale and it was time to take the team in a different direction. But his impact on the Rangers organization is understated and still felt today. He is essentially the main reason the Rangers ditched the FA route to build through the draft.

I don't recall the Islanders being nearly universally praised for everything they did as the Panthers almost are.

The Islanders did have a top 2 or 3 prospect pool for a long time, but that means diddly squat. There was too much other nonsense surrounding the Islanders, like trading for Tim Thomas, etc... for them to be constantly lauded as doing everything so well.

Blue Jackets did get a ton of great coverage in the media as well, which I also thought was jumping the gun a bit. Especially since Ryan Murray can't ever stay healthy and the rest of their defensive corps is a burning dirty diaper.

Buch is gonna make it man. They're not gonna let him go back to the KHL.

Last week the NHL Network put up a graphic showing their suggested lines for the Rangers should they sign Jimmy Vesey:

Chris Kreider - Derek Stepan - Rick Nash
JT Miller - Mika Zibanejad - Mats Zuccarello
Jimmy Vesey - Kevin Hayes - Pavel Buchnevich
Michael Grabner - Nathan Gerbe - Jesper Fast

In this scenario Tanner Glass and Josh Jooris would be healthy scratches or in Hartford. Oscar Lindberg will be on the IR to start the season.

I do think Torts was exactly what the Rangers needed at the time. I think if you have an established team that needs a strong hand to push you over the hump he's one of the best in the business, but if you have a team that's developing or on the downslope I don't think you want him anywhere near it.
