They're literally nearly identical to the Nittany Lion. They look like a soccer patch that I received when we used to swap them with other travel teams at age 11. I think they're atrocious all around.

So you do like at least one sports team within the confines of your state-of-residence...interesting.

You're a Cowboys fan right?

I saw this on reddit while enjoying my morning dump and nearly died laughing.

Fair warning: the video has some foul language, so if you're at work...watch at your own risk.

True, Meanwhile Arizona is now in danger of going over the cap.

They're at about $70 million in cap spent, but they have about $6.9 million in potential bonuses this year.

- BINGO!

Are some of the bonuses tied into Pronger's and Datsyuk's contracts? Cause if they are then they should be fine. Doan will probably hit all of his.

Edit: Never mind. All Bonus tied to players who actually play. Never thought I'd see the day where the Coyotes have more of cap hit than the Rangers. Look away from the fact it's just another way to circumvent it.

Arizona will cause the next lockout. Is it ok to say that?

I have been hearing the Rangers cause lockouts for over 20 years.

see my edit.

Seriously though. If you need to circumvent the cap in order to reach the cap floor than the NHL will just turn a blind eye.

It's exactly what the league wants. They want trades like this so that the cheaper teams can acquire young talent to grow and become competitive while not having to actually pay legit salaries to stay compliant.

Pretty stupid. Sorry that I'm not sorry for this. Why should the NHL care about Arizona or Florida? Those fans aren't a drop in the NHL's projected revenue bucket.

Side note, Canes are reporting new Season Ticket sales are up 40% from last year, and that ticket revenue is 60% higher from this time a year ago.

90.5% season ticket renewal rate this year as opposed to only 72% at this time last year.

Because it's not about trying to keep the fans you have, it's about trying to get new ones.

Rangers fans will be Rangers fans. Leafs fans will be Leafs fans. You've got them. They're born and raised and loyal.

Coyotes fans and Hurricanes fans and such are still in their first or second generation of season ticket buyers. You need to establish a tradition and keep a team in the market long enough to get multiple generations of ticket buyers.

Look at Carolina... sure, they won a cup, and they've been there for 17 years, but we're only seeing the tip of the iceberg in terms of a second generation of fans who are starting to reach the point where they can buy season tickets on their own.

They NHL will never be able to grow their "new" fans substantially. You know why? Because of 3 partial/full work stoppages over 20 years. With a one rumored to be on the way if they Canadian dollar continues to be stagnant.

I don't know. Nashville has done a great job. Canes are getting there. Think it has a lot to do with location of arenas, generating some buzz, etc.

I go to the games in Calgary, Edmonton or Vancouver when they come by.

Not Winnipeg though. (frank) Winnipeg.

Should be getting down to Raleigh this winter for a game or two.

I was secretly hoping the team would move to Las Vegas because they'd be a hell of a lot closer and I'd be able to catch a handful of home games per year.

Nah they get it. The work stoppages piss off established fans in hardcore markets more than new ones. Ticket sales always seem to skyrocket in the smaller markets right after a lockout.

It's about patience and making sure you are building something for 10 years down the line instead of worrying about where you're at in the early days.

Unpopular opinion:

I'm really not impressed by anything Florida does, typically. I think some of their prospects/young players are grossly overrated, and really nobody on that team impresses me outside of Barkov and Ekblad. I think they get a lot of positive coverage for three reasons:

- The majority of media/bloggers that cover hockey are, at the very least, somewhat supportive and outspoken about analytics and FLA is a team that openly embraces them. (This isn't a commentary on analytics, just a reason I think they receive a ton of positive coverage)

- It's "cool" to support a team that has been unpopular for an exceedingly long time

- They are very active, in making trades/signings. Which I think a lot of people like to see, despite it not necessarily being correlated to success.

I'm not saying they suck, they obviously have a nicely balanced team, but I just don't have the same "Oh, FLA is going to be a major Cup-contender for a long time" view that so many people seem to have.

- eichiefs9

Barkov and Ekblad at ages 20 are already 2 of the top 10-15 players in their respective positions. They will carry that team in a Jonathan Toews/Duncan Keith manner for the next decade, and their supporting cast aren't chump change.

Yeah I'm not sitting here trying to tell anyone that the Panthers are bad, they're a real solid team. But I just think that the NHL's MSM & bloggers are way higher on them then they should be.

Got my tickets bought for the game in Calgary already this year.

Would also be cheaper for me if they moved to Quebec City, but that ain't happening.
