Goaltending will be their weak link. - Atomic Wedgie
They just need one of Gibson or Murray to step up..
i think Gobson is the better goalie, but he's American and id rather see the T-Bay lad win.. |

What about when Laine leads Finland in scoring? - Scabeh
i dont know... wont be like world championships. There are no belarus or congo for him to rack up points before pulling a no show against actual hockey teams.
hes a great player but his world championship performance wasnt anything impressive |

She doesn't really like dogs.
Chocolate usually works for a while until she regrets eating it and hates me for "making her so fat" even though she's in great shape training 3-4 times a week.....

Kinda like what Vancouver did with horvat, virtanen and mcann? - Tumbleweed
none of those guys were gift wrapped spots. slick willie didn't want any young players in the lineup, but he had no choice when Horvat won a spot and the following season Canucks didn't have enough depth to deny Virtanen and McCann who admittedly could have used time in Junior/ AHL but were good enough to make the team.
not sure why your team would need Prust unless it's to add team toughness, but that just means a younger player is going to have his spot taken... |

You still here? The only time Vancouver players got to carve their names into the cup was NEVER!
Here's one for the road
- winsix
Actually that's not true. Vancouver Millionaires won the cup, so yes, a team from Vancity did win the cup and the legacy of that team is with the current club in Vancity.
If I'm not mistaken, that cup win came well before any by a Toronto based team. You can correct that if I'm wrong. |

Can't stand it when power/phone lines get cut by idiots. - winsix
especially when the phone co. workers are supposed to bury them more than several inches below the dirt when its on your property, but instead they just put alongside your flower bed cuz they too lazy to put them in properly and they just dangling there after the fact... |

The team has been around for a century, as Burns said it would be impossible to retire every great player's number - winsix
Montreal seems to be able to retire numbers and frankly speaking they have a much greater legacy. That's not to disparage your team's history, but rather just pointing out that teams with legacy can and do retire numbers.
I'm sure you can admit that the Habs have a much greater legacy of winning, including more recently and have been able to retire great player's numbers... |

Going to be tough for them starting against Finland, Russia, and then Sweden, but I guess there are no bad teams in this tournament when you think about it. - RickJames77

Yeah but can you imagine the weight of having to retire the numbers of CuJo and Belfour AND Andrew Raycroft? |

The Toronto Blue Shirts won the Stanley Cup the year before the Vancouver Millionaires.

As the Toronto Maple Leafs were the first North American team (in any sport) to retire a number, we don't need to take poop from anyone.
I actually like the current system: numbers only retired for guys whose careers were tragically cut short.
All others are honoured.
Interesting little footnote: when the Leafs first started honouring numbers, the current player wearing the number would have a shoulder patch of a maple leaf with the name of the honoured player stitched onto it (I'll see if I can google up a pic).
Of course, the NHL eventually put a stop to it, because they didn't want differentiation in jerseys. Yeah, great.
But I like the idea of the honoured jersey. If Marner wanted to wear the #93, great, but here's the thing, kid: you need to live up to it.
It's a great way of using the history of the club. Unfortunately, it seems like the Leafs now won't give out any recently honoured numbers - nobody will wear 17, 93 or 13. |
