I'm thinking of buying a new putter. Anyone here have some recommendations?
- rangerdanger94

How much are you willing to spend?

With Nike getting out of the equipment biz you could probably get a Nike putter pretty cheap.

Id like to keep it around $200 but I'd go $300-350 to be honest.

The Taylormade OS Spider looks sexy. Might head to Golfsmith during lunch to try a few different ones out but I'd like a list of which ones to focus on so I don't waste my limited lunch time.

I'm probably one of the few on here that likes Marcus, he just needs to be consistent.
- mhp

He played real good towards the end of the season. He mentioned being healthy was a big reason for it .

I just bought a Vapor Fly driver and Vapor Speed 3 and 5 Woods for a grand total of $350. Total steal.

So it is 10 games for the entire year (before first year kicks in), so I would think you would see him later in the season (pending him not destroying camp).

But on that note, if the player is in Rochester, I am not sure if that is going to burn his first year either way. So maybe the 10 games does not matter for him?

- Lilroot9

I'd think the year doesn't burn since he's already loaned to the AHL. If it does I'd assume he gets all of preseason and then starts in Rochester and is the 2nd or 3rd callup who can play his way up that list.

Did you move back after school, or do you still live near Buffalo?

With Dan Lambert coaching down there these kids will develop nicely. He has a good track record in that regard from his work in Kelowna. I like the idea of Nylander in Rochester and Lambert working with him.
- mhp

I don't know too much about Lambert so it's good to hear that. I was hoping he wouldn't be a guy who doesn't like to play kids at all and would put a guy like Nylander in a checking role but it doesn't sound like that now.

I'm probably one of the few on here that likes Marcus, he just needs to be consistent.
- mhp

I feel Marcus' problem is he doesn't know what he wants to do. I don't think he's offensively gifted enough to be a constant threat but when he tries to play the offensive game he does it at the expense of his physical and defensive game which are his strong suits. He needs to play tough and defensive hockey until the time comes and then play short bursts of offense. When he does that he's a great 4th line player with good enough hands to put up good 4th line numbers. When he does offense too much he just gets out of position.

Like I said, I'm good with keeping him but Bylsma needs to work with him.

I have an Odyssey Works putter. You can get Odyssey or Ping in the $200-$300 range. Some Odyssey's might be cheaper. Scotty Cameron Titelist putters start at $350.00.

If he stays on the Larsson line, gets some 3rd line minutes I think he could have a good year.

Odyssey putters are nice. My buddy has a 2 ball fang putter with a jumbo super stroke grip. Really nice.

The trick to buying golf clubs is eBay. Brand new scottys on there for like $200-250

You will save money on E Bay for sure. I have the super stroke grip on my Odyssey, love that putter. Had Taylor Made 2 ball putter in the past, didn't like it. I prefer a mallet putter to a blade.

Gotcha. I'm completely ignorant of anything in that area, so when you were asking about golfing stuff all that's in my head is "Where the hell is there to golf down there...isn't everything concrete and steel???"

My buddy sold me a Scotty Cameron Studio Design 1.5 putter that was 33" and had a Lamkin grip on it for $20 as a favor and I ended up extending it 2" and put it a super stroke grip on it but it's turned the putter to absolute garbage. I used to be able to have a really good feel for how much power I'm putting into the putt but the extension combined with the grip absorbs all feedback and the putts are so...numb.

New Jersey has some of the nicest golf courses you'll find. Berkshire Valley for example is unbelievably beautiful.

The downside is that a round here is like $45-60 on average.

My brother is on the golf team at his high school in NJ and raves about the courses down there. I've just started playing again this year for the first time in 10 years so I bought a crappy little set from Richard's and he won't let it die. I just can't get myself to pay more than 200 on something that won't help my game incredibly

Nicer clubs help but as they say it's the not the arrow, it's the Indian shooting the arrow.

They help, but unless you are golfing 2-3 times a week, there is no reason to spend $1500 plus on clubs. I didnt get my nice set until last year now that i am golfing more.

I got the TaylorMade M2s and i am in love with them. I just had a cheap starter set for 5+ years. And then added the Bettinardi putter.
