Between his agent and social media, Vesey has to be one of the most hated players in the league without ever playing a game...twitter has made him look like an entitled a$$
- yen6d1

This only became a long drawn out circus because Buffalo traded for his rights. If they hadn't, we wouldn't have heard anything about Vesey until the 16th.

Yeah, no idea if that is true or not.

If you did Matthews at 2.85m in potential bonuses, Vesey the same, thats 5.7m, going over the cushion. if you add the 850k of bonuses for marner, nylander, and Zaitsev...thats 8.25m in potential perfromance bonuses on the roster. So I believe how it works that the anything over the 7.5% cushion starts to count against the cap this season. So thats 2.775m of dead cap space (thats if you have all the rookies playing this season).

Not sure how accurate the 400k in cap space is currently, but if the have to add 2.7m in bonsues as cap this season before having a back up goalie signed. There would have to be some sort of cap moves to make it all work...I dont know the Horton/Robidas LTIR or Cowner maybe or maybe not buyout sitch. But thats me looking at it at a glance without knowing the full details of that roster.

Its probably not as straight forward as that, or else any smuck could be a teams Cap guy, but thats how I understand it at least

Since we missed out on Vesey we need a winger that has top 6 potential.

Nyquist
Pulkkinen
Nichushkin
Rieder
Fast

It won't be easy to get any of these guys and for some, it could be costly.

- mhp

We've gotta keep in mind that Nylander will prob be ready next year
Also Bailey, & possibly Fasching

I'm not a big Fasching guy though,
So I'd deal him + to get one of the guys you mention

At this point,
I doubt Ennis or Girgs are gonna have the value to get that kinda talent
Maybe after they have bounceback seasons
Kane prob has to prove he can straighten himself out for a year before we can get a good return for him

It would be nice to bring in another guy so we can run with 3 scoring lines instead of 2, but we prob have to wait until next year to do that

I think the writing is on the wall and it says that we need to just stand pat and let things work out. One of the young defenseman will jump up. At least one of Ennis, Gus or Moulson will return to form. The roster will look pretty good when these things happen.

I think current cap space does not include LTIR which kicks in when the season starts... until the season starts they are allowed to go over the cap.

Nashville might have a reason to boo him, as they may have had a good reason to think they could ink Vesey during their 3 years. And that's only based on "what normally happens" and the possibility that Vesey wasn't as clear with them before the TDL as he was with everyone else after. (I know there are two sides to that story).

Neither Buffalo or Boston have any reason to Boo. He couldn't be any clearer that he was going to the market.

Agree
But I wouldn't be surprised if he get booed in various cities

I'm cool adding Hudler or Pirri to the lineup
That would make Deslauriers the extra forward
As is, Cal O'Reilly is prob the extra

In markets like Buffalo, Boston, Jersey, Nyi, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Toronto & Nashville....
I'd say enough that he'll hear it a bit

I don't expect him to get booed in places like Colorado, Anaheim, etc

So Vesey who said having a number 1 center is important (and #2 center cause he wont be top line this year, I would think), signed with the team with the worst top 2 centers.

Just seems really weird, but whatever, it is his future.

Maybe he saved us the trouble? He wants to play for a team that can guarantee him a spot. So he does not want competition. Maybe this is better?

Just because he didn't choose Buffalo, I'm not going to change my opinion on him and think it means anything about suddenly being worse than I thought he was prior.

Like I've seen some (stable) Rangers fans post, 1st season he basically needs to be a 35 point player, or else the hype was too much. And if that ends up true, they really lost nothing but probably $4M after he hits the easy GP bonuses.

So do we sign Girgs or trade him? Where does he fit on the roster? Larsson might be our 3C so do you pay Girgs a lot of money to be a 4C? I don't see him as a winger in the top 6.
- mhp

I need my 3C to score 15 or so. I know he had 10 last year, but I question Larsson's offensive upside.

I am not saying he is worse, just that he does not want to compete for a roster spot (but guaranteed one).

Good luck with that. Not many of the top teams even get that out of a 3rd Center

Getzlaf had 13, Chicago only had 4 players score over 14 goals (2 centers), Nashville's top "Center" (not sure if they have some winger play C) only had 16 goals, Kings had their #2 and #3 score 25 and 24 respectively, Washington's highest scoring C after their top 2 had 3 goals, Pittsburgh's 3rd (Cullen) had 16.

Those are some of the elite teams in the league, and only 2 of 6 accomplished that.

I just looked at 4 other teams (Florida, Tampa, St. Louis and Dallas) and 2 of 4 had a 3rd C with 15+ goals, Tampa only had 1 (Stamkos).

It's a great goal, but not one I'd think I'd hang success on.

Kings could be a fit...they have Nick Shore as their 3C, and have Carter moved back to 2C (I think hes better as a Winger). They reallly could use some C depth
