Well my guess would be about line combinations, power play time and probably just how they described whether he was slotted in a spot or earning it. No having the keys to the kingdom doesnt mean hes becoming the next captain but more of just getting a great spot given to you verbally before training camp. Who knows maybe playing with Hayes was the factor. The allure of NYC may be another one... its fantastic city... but given other options for winning and possibly scoring more points for a better contract next time.. a bit puzzling.

I don't know if the 3rd line is a "great spot" and last year none of the Rangers regulars deserved PP time. I just think he will still have to earn his spot. He will be given the chance, but he has to keep it. Pretty much like Hayes 2 years ago.

Great signing

Idk? I for one think this is a high risk low reward kind of thing. Vesey is a locker room cancer who is a well known raper.

Well well well.......usually it's everyone kneeling before the King NOT the King kneeling down...............what a team man he really is!

Good snag on Vesey.

Hoping the kid is a decent player. I have no knowledge of his skill, stats, play style, etc, just the "hype". If so many GMs thought he was worth chasing, I have a hunch he has a good shot at being a successful NHLer.

I look forward to seeing his progress, as well as watching to see what happens to him in 2 years.

It's a free player, so why not take a shot.

But let's be real, he's a 23 year old,who has never played professional hockey. He has about as much of a chance of making an impact on an NHL club as any other 3rd round pick from 4 years ago.

Let's keep in mind Kevin Hayes is less than a year older than Vesey and already has 158 NHL games played. Hayes had a far better senior year than Vesey while playing in a far more competitive conference in Hockey East.

Maybe I'm missing something, I just don't get the hype with Vesey, other than the fact that he is a free asset.

Jimmy made the right choice ando the one I would have made. If all my friends are playing for team X, then I would play there as well. The comraderie will be there and they will definitely elevate each others game. Good choice by Vesey!

What about the Rangers taking Dustin Brown's contract off the Kings as well? Brown is a New York kid and could definitely help with leadership and SC winning experience!!

it certainly wasn't hype invented by fans

look at what all the teams did to try and lure him to their team, no teams did all that to try and get Kevin Hayes

I was just trying to figure out possible line combos with the current roster and I end up with a lot of extra forwards

Kreider-Stepan-Nash

Buchnevich-Zibinajed-Zuccarello

Vesey-Hayes-Miller

however you work it, that would seem to be the ideal top 9 forwards

then you have Grabner, Fast, Gerbe, Jooris, Lindberg who will miss the first month and Tanner Glass kicking around. Also, Maxim Lapierre on PTO

Stromwall too, Niklas Jensen, Hrivik

a trade is inevitable

Wow, just caught up to this story. I was following it like a crack monkey for days and didn't find out till late last night! Congrats, and boy am I disappointed. Enjoy the burn...

I'd be pretty thrilled if I was a Ranger Fan... and I think Sleezy Vesey (just made that up, feel free to borrow) is going to be a real good player in this league. Good day for the Rangers and I'd think the highlight of the offseason. I know trading Brass was a much bigger deal but there is no downside to winning the Harvard Sweepstakes.

P.S. Hope we call up Gazdic to freight train his Ivy League ass. This is so good for the rivalry... Which reminds me... (frank) you Kreiderbomb! I know you're going to be the first guy in line to have Jimmy shove his Fenway Frank in your mouth and dribble some New England chowder on your face...

I cannot wait for the season to start and I think the Devils Rangers rivalry will definitely heat up again with how much the Devs have improved. Gonna be wild.

(frank) man/er queenie. Don't go unsettling the big fella this time of year - it's going to reduce the impact later in the year when his usual pent up frustration explodes & provides so much entertainment!!

Seriously throwing Buch on 2nd line & giving Vman a spot straight off the bat??

Edit: I love Kreids, but not sure he's top line material starting the year.

well, listen, I have nothing to do with line combos, just pointing out that ideally, those are the top 9 forwards

of course it may not work out that way, but that's the ideal scenario

Yes it's going to be interesting seeing how they both fit in. It's a big ask giving them a spot straight up but we'll see. Certainly going to be interesting in here!

Who else has the nhl experience to play 1st LW for the Rangers? Miller, that's about it. Hayes tried on the wing last year and it failed. Move him back to C

We will see what we got when the season starts. Offense has to be better but the D, IDK. Hopefully the Ranger-Devils games get real exciting again. I suspect there is a pretty good Islander team that's feeling extra pissy following this drama. I'm sure you guys will have extra fun there.
