If I were Vesey's age and with a big paycheck, it would be awesome. I'd prefer Boston however if I'm going to a big city. At my age, with kids etc... I agree, not a place I want to be.
- madmike71

Yeah Boston would be sweet to live with a huge pay check...Chicago would be a close 2nd on my list if it were big cities.

Speed is an overused media cliche. We won because we had better hockey players. Don't see anyone complaining when hornqvist scores a goal. You can definitely mix other guys in and still have speed, but I think speed is a little overrated in why we won. Good players are good players no matter how they get it done.
- sditulli

Not sure I agree with that. I think if you would ask most non-Penguin fans they would say that the rosters for both TB & SJ were better than the Pens roster, hence the reason most picked against them in nearly ever round. The Pens players played better hockey but I'm not sure top to bottom they had the better players.

I do agree with the second part though in that different styles can mix together well at times. I think both Hornqvist with Crosby and the HBK line are perfect examples of this, Hornqvist comes nowhere close to the speed and skill of Crosby but he still works well on his wing. Bonino is a similar situation in that his speed isn't close to that of Kessel & Hagelin but his vision on the ice allows him to get the puck to the 2 speedsters in the open so he makes for a perfect complement even though he's much slower. It doesn't always work out mixing players that play with different styles but there are also those times where the differing styles makes for perfect complement.

I think Vesey will track to be a solid 40-50 point per season guy. In other words, middle six. Would have been a nice get, but we didn't need him. I have no idea why he picked the Rangers though. That franchise's success is directly tied to Hank, and he's not gonna be at the top for very much longer. Whatevs. Didn't have anything against him for doing what's best for him, but I guess I hate him now cus Rags.
- Victoro311

Projecting him at 40-50 points would put him squarely in the top 6 production wise not so much in the middle 6 range. There were only 85 forwards in the league that eclipsed the 50pt plateau last season, that's an average of 2.8 forwards per team that score 50+ points. Being on the higher end of the 40-50pt range would put him on the same level as players like Marleau, Eberle, Hertl, Kadri, Kreider and only a few points behind players like MacKinnon, Skinner & Saad. Getting to around the 50pt would make Vesey a low end top line player or above average 2nd line player.

I agree completely. I was just pointing out that 40-50pts would make Vesey a solid top 6 player not a middle 6 player. Projecting him as a middle 6 player(which I agree with) should put him in the 30-40pt range tops, anything more than that and he'd be right up there with the top handful of young players in the league and I think that's being overly generous.

Fan opinion don't really matter. Analytics favored us from the start of the playoffs. I thought San Jose struggled against us but Tampa Bay had some good play.

Now take my statement that its overall athleticism that matters. We had speed but did anyone call us a small team? We're we sacrificing anything for that speed. Don't know how we match up six wise vs the average team but I don't believe we are below average. I think a team would also be pretty dominant if they were bigger than everyone else but average speed.

Why their are other parts of the game than athleticsm I do think the key for speed or size is that the edge you have in that helps you win more one on one battles than the other guy.

You have awful taste. NO is literally one of the best cities in America. Not to live in. But the food is amazing and the culture different from anywhere else. Great to visit.

But nyc and la have their good spots. They aren't one of the flyover places not worth visiting.

Reading a bit more about this Di Pauli fellow and he could develop into the 4th line center we thought sundqvist was going to be. If he's a rust 2.0, I'd be extremely happy with that

I live 30 minutes from Chicago and it's becoming a dump. It is becoming the new murder capital of the US. So many people are leaving the city because it's not what it used to be. When you're a kid right out of college do you want to live in a smaller city like Pittsburgh or Boston, or live your life to the fullest in one of the most unique cities in the world in NY? It's obvious he chose his decision wasn't about being on the best team or putting himself in the best opportunity to succeed

Chicago is fine in the city. It's safe and actually cranes going up. Problem is taxes. They are not too bad for a big city now, but the city doesn't have the draw of nyc or la to impose much higher yet the finances are a mess.

Chicagos problems are on the fringes and quite frankly mostly a black problem killing themselves in their neighborhoods. If the city could just change their boundaries to exclude those communities they would have a low murder rate and cut a ton of expenses.

Don't forget Illinois' economy is atrocious and literally is one of the most corrupt states in the US.
