Eh I don't like spot promising. I want Vesey, but that's one thing we shouldn't do. Sends the wrong message to the team. Yeah sure, we're trying to recruit him and telling him he's going to start the year in the AHL is no way of going about getting him here, but it should be clear that you earn things around these parts.

I haven't done this for awhile but if I was the GM of the Penguins this is what I would do and I think we would destroy the rest of the league. I know most of you won't even bother looking but I would be so proud of this team and the devastation they would they would lay on the rest of the league and the best part is it's very much in the realm of possibility. https://www.capfriendly.c...m/armchair-gm/team/179753

I'm not a fan of some of those moves, but the main issue here is the Niemi/MAF trade. Murray is an RFA after this season and he has a successful season he's likely going to make around $4M and then you have Niemi's $4.5 and Murray's $4M which will cause a major cap issue. Factor in the Pens will need to resign Dumoulin and attempt to bring back Bonino.

As opposed to keeping MAF around who has a higher cap hit than Niemi and would make it so Murray's exposed? The only way to unload MAF is to make a trade like that, and quite honestly I don't think we'd even get a pick in return.

Have to take Niemi to get Honka and a second it's worth it. If LV doesn't take him in the expansion draft we can buy out his last year. I'm not looking to play Niemi but Dallas has to move a goalie in any trade and they have to give up good asets to get rid of him. Honka is a great dman and he's a right handed shot thats the most valuable position in the NHL right now. I think Niemi sucks too but for 25-30 games or we could dump him to WBS and bring up Jarry for some of those starts we can make up for it.

Again, I think Niemi sucks too but with Dallas you have to take one of their goalies back and for that service we are given Honka and a 2nd, it's just worth it every angle you look at it.

If we can take back Niemi and stilll have 5 million in cap space and an improved roster to boot it's all win.

That would give us 5 mill in cap space and Daley and Scuderi will still be coming off the books. I let Daley go and resign Shultz. Give Dumo 4.5 mill for 7 years and still have 5 million to spare. Give Bonino 3 mill and we are good, Pouliot it depends on his season. Next year you run Maata/ Letang, Dumo/ Shultz, Pouliot/ Honka, and there will be a guy like Jeff Taylor or someone else to be the 7th dman. All good.

I think bonino will get north of 4. Market could see him as a 2c and get 4milx5

Pittsburgh is a different fit then most of these teams. Only Chicago is also considered a top Cup contender, and IMO, that's more on past results because their supporting cast has been gutted. Pittsburgh is closer to Boston and if your goal is to get more points to get a bigger 2nd contract, Crosby and Malkin are both superior offensively to Toews.

What we don't offer is we aren't as close to Boston as some other teams and aren't likely to offer a top PP role. If that matters more he likely goes elsewhere. But if he wants his best chance at a title and best center, we are the obvious choice.

I don't see that roster being a big improvement over what we have. Basically flipping Kunitz for Yakupov. Would call that high risks as some potential exists in yak but Kunitz still looks like he can put up 40 pts and play a solid 2-way game.

Pirri is pretty high risks. And losing fehr you lose a 2-way game. Fehr has potential to put up more goals.

Dallas trade is reasonable but I hope to get a better offer.

Roster sounds great on paper but it's riskier. Fehr/Kunitz you know what you get from them. Why do we want lander? Kunitz for yak is a fair trade straight up. Edmonton might even consider adding for that swap.

Then we have to let him go unfortunately. Can't pay him that and stay relevant.

Yeah Edmonton adds Lander, he's a solid 5C and has upside. I like getting younger and Yak with Malkin with no expectations I just see Yak becoming the new James Neal and Pirri scored 25 goals 2 years ago, what are the risks with him at 800k? I love that Dallas trade I think we rob them blind but I also think they would do it. Fehr and Kunitz, yes you know what you get but they are older and if you get younger assets for them it helps now and the future. I actually see it as Lander for Kunitz and Yak for a third. You can't have enough serviceable centers and Letting Fehr go and Lander taking his place is replacing old with young. That would be my goal. Keeping a competitive team every year.

Based on the fact that he isn't even dominating the AHL, he is not ready for the show. He wasn't even the best player on his team last year. That is not NHL ready in my mind. 17 points in the ahl? Yuck.

We are a cup contender. You are basically trading two contributors for two pirate style reclamation projects. If they don't work out our depth blows. Also losing two good defensive forwards.

We have sundqvist landers adds nothing. Why would a gm whose already build a team that dominated add two question marks and send out two proven commodities.

We have the cash. He's asking for 5+. This season will tell if he can get. Similar players as bonino in terms of production are getting 4.5 on recent deals (soderberg and anisimov).

I trust Rutherford to make the call on paying him. Message boards guys all think he's a scrub.

Could you imagine this team though if they kept Bonino, added Vesey, and Sprong and Guentzel become what we hope they will?

Fehr will have a better season this year because he isn't coming into the season following injury, surgery and rehab. Glad we have him. Too many people like to bag on him.
