A quick googling shows it was built after and separate from the Hunter plan.
It was much smaller when it opened in 1988. - Atomic Wedgie
Fuuuck. it seats only 100 people less than the Jets' building seats.
Both Saskatoon and Regina are talking about building bigger arenas in their respective downtowns, too. |

Nah. Attendance numbers dropped so much the last few years BECAUSE they only give out about 300 freebie tickets per night now. Old numbers were inflated by about 2500 tickets per night. - BINGO!
There isn't an NHL team in deeper sh!t than the Hurricanes. Owner owes the NHL over $30 million, his sons over $350 million and the team is worth only $225 million according to Forbes. That's pretty low considering Vegas is ponying up $750 million for a new team. Special word for the day "RELOCATION" |

I believe it would be VERY smart for the Leaves to package a deal for Shattenkirk. They (the Leaves) have a lot of forwards and could put together 4-5 of them to get Shattenkirk. As a Blues fan I'd like the Leaves to offer Matthews, Nylander, Reilly, Marner, Komorov and Gardner. I think the Leaves would need to sweeten the pot and add 2 first round picks and a second like they did to get Kessel. Plus they'd need to add JVR and Soshnikov and Connor Brown and Travis Dermott will likely get it done. Plus another 1st round pick. And JJ Piccinic. And Kapanen. So, to sum up. Shattenkirk to the Leaves for Matthews, Nylander, Reilly, Marner, Komorov, Gardner, 2 first round picks, 1 second round pick, JVR, Soshnikov, Connor Brown, Dermott, a 1st round pick, Piccinic, Kapanen, and Kyle Dubas. We're practically giving Shattenkirk away at this point. Add Zack Hyman as well and we'll do it, but you owe us one Leave fans. - Kayakjack

Given his still-abundant investing activities, significant cash inflow, sheer net worth and the simple fact he hasn’t filed for bankruptcy, it seems safe to assume that Karmanos’ bank account remains well-endowed.
Family strife, instead of financial ability, is the increasingly unanimous explanation for why Karmanos is ignoring paying off his 2013 loan.
Per the same court document, Karmanos took out two loans from the trust fund prior to this most recent one: a $180M loan in 1999 (to be paid in installments until 2029) and a $69.7M loan in 2009 (to be paid in installments until 2017).
Neither of those loans are scheduled to have been paid off already and, presumably, Karmanos has been making those payments on time, as no complaints are made in regard to either in the lawsuit. Mathematically, he should have paid roughly $104M in payments so far on the 1999 loan and $68M in payments so far on the 2009 loan — sums that further reinforce conclusions about the lushness of his bank account.
That implies the timing of the 2013 loan may be important.
During the same NHL offseason in which he took out that loan, Karmanos’ son Jason, one of the lawsuit’s three plaintiffs, was abruptly fired from the Hurricanes’ front office. Jason now works for the Pittsburgh Penguins alongside former Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford, who was inexplicably ravaged in an explosive, now-infamous Karmanos press conference last summer.
While presumably making full, on-time payments on his 1999 and 2009 loans, Karmanos has allegedly made absolutely no payments at all, rather than merely insufficient payments, on the 2013 loan. The perplexing disparity between these two patterns indicates that the latter may be because of disinterest in paying rather than inability to pay. |

Karmanos ownership of the Hurricanes will end and sooner than later - the size of his bank account is not as relevant as the merits of keeping a team in a market that will not support an NHL franchise.
As to Jim Rutherford
Talk about a lucky stiff! Goes from a truly terrible NHL franchise to win a cup in one year - he probably laughs himself to sleep. |

Too far away from anywhere but Edmonton or Calgary, really.
The rink is wasted on a Major Junior team though. Seats 12,500. - BINGO!
Rush did great there but I mean they played like 9 games only. If the blades management wasn't such a joke I'd probably go to a few more games but no thanks. |

I remember last year I got mad when Happ was the pitcher brought in. I'm not even mad at being proven wrong and having raw egg on my face.
Wait a second, that ain't raw egg.... (frank)ing glory holes. You never know where what when it shoots. Good times though. |

I haven't been to a Blades game in close to a decade (probably over). I couldn't agree more about a team being as poorly mismanaged as the Blades have been. I think the last Blades game I went to was when Darcy Hordichuk and Martin Erat played for them.
Though I did attend some world junior games and the memorial cup in the past.
As for an NHL team...Saskatoon is small but people in Sasky travel for many events and four hours round trip for a hockey game wouldn't be out of the question for some people. |
