Can anyone else come up with a local kid who underperformed playing for his hometown Bruins? Jimmy murphy tweeting out that a source close to vesey says coming to boston is a long shot, because he is "acutely aware" of how boston kids struggle back home. Other than hayes last season, I'm struggling to come up with another example.

I think whoever allegedly said that is being a bit hyperbolic.

Murphy makes stuff up. Most of the home town guys were just 3rd/4th liners that played like 3rd/4th liners. So the struggling stuff is way out of context even if he wasnt a complete hack.

sure, Vesey is signing with Boston. How has that worked out for his good friend Hayes and didn't his Dad advise him to avoid Boston? Plus Sweeney is a rogue GM, to say the least. If it really has come down to NJ Boston and Buffalo (and I don't believe Haggerty on this) then got to like Buffalo's chances. In saying that, if I have a chance to play for my home team I do it, no matter if it's the best opportunity or not.

I heard vesey's dad may become a candidate to fill the scouting role gretzky had with the bruins.

Just wondering how Detroit is too far from home, yet Chicago somehow isn't.

you could probably make an argument, but I don't think his tenure in boston should scare away a potential player. This is why I think Murphy is blowing smoke, he does cover the canadiEns now and was just saying last week that Montreal could be a dark horse, I also think his source was Jimmy Hayes' parents or Jimmy Hayes himself.

was just throwing it out there. but yeah this is a made up thing, totally. jimmy hayes sucks. talk radio, etc. treats him like a guy that sucks. no one cares that he's from boston. if vesey signed in chicago and sucked he'd hear about there too.

Agreed. He'll get punished by the media in any "Hockey Town" he ends up playing in. Those cities where the microscope is a lot more critical. Regardless of where he grew up. I don't say Hayes is a pylon cause he's local. He's a pylon cause he's a pylon

Just listened to a Haggerty interview (I know, I know) in which he said the Bruins pitch to Vesey was that he will be a top 6 forward with the team. If that's true, where does everyone else line up with our other guys on LW?

Obviously we've got Marchand on the 1st line, and then Beleskey (I think he works best on the 3rd line) and surely Frankie V deserves time in the NHL this year... as a goal per game player in the AHL, I don't think you can't stick him down there again this year. So would they stick him on the 4th line? I think he's earned a shot at playing better minutes, and with better players than the 4th line.

Where do you guys see everyone lining up if Vesey does sign here?

I always imagined Frankie V would probably slot in on the right side with either marchand and bergy, or spoons and belesky on the third line.
