So Montreal had Dale Weise. They made a small offer to Weise. Weise rejected it and this is from a team he loved, from a team that knew him. Ouch.

It's not surprising they weren't interested in Weise after Bergevin blew his capspace load on Shaw.

Habs made an offer. Habs know Weise better than anyone. Habs certainly know Weise better than the Flyers do.

Are you trying to say that the Flyers paid too much for Weise?

Still it was considered a lowball offer by Weise and he went elsewhere.

Yes the Habs know him but they had an amount of money in mind they could pay him and they offered it. It could have been 500k less than what Weise wanted and he went looking for that 500k and got a better deal from Philly. It's the way things go in pro sports.

I think the deal could go either way. Four year commitment to a bottom 6 player. Fours is considered long term these days. Mark Streit signed for four. Streit going into his fourth sesson, it's debatable if we even need him now should Provorov come into his own and Gostisbehere continue to bring the offense.

Exactly
Plus we don't know if there were any other factors involved. He may not have liked playing in Montreal or playing for Therien. There may have been personal issues or it could have just been about money. There is no way to know the whole story unless the player chooses to make his reasons public, and that happens very rarely.

I don't see the term being the issue. I also think we do need Mark Streit, and hopefully he'll be healthy, and can play as he has in the past. Even is Provorov makes the team, he's still a 19 year old defenseman.

I think Feanor pointed it in the right direction. If we look at the Habs cap picture, they could comfortably offer Wiese about a million less than he signed with the Flyers for. I think based on the information available that I've seen, it was about money.

I'm skeptical about Weise. He bad a good season with the Habs, followed by a trade to the Hawks where he was less than valuable to practically a dynasty team. I get the situation. Weise doesn't feel the Habs made a fair offer, so he moved elsewhere. I have no problem with this. However, if fans are gonna use the system excuse, how Weise didn't work in one of the most effective systems in the past 7 seasons, I'm a little concerned. The Flyers are all about system play these days. Also Weise played for a very fragile Habs team that couldn't win without one of the best goalies in the league healthy, in net and playing for them. This cannot be placed square on the shoulders of Weise but he was in that locker room and wanted to go back.
