What did he do wrong? He said since he was with Nashville that he wanted to go to Free Agency. If he hadn't been traded this wouldn't be a story. He then did exactly what he said he would. Now he's mulling his options. He has teams coming to him so he's listening.

Its not like he has been on Mars for years, he has been sitting on this for months, its not like he doesn't know who the teams are. Most are lying to him anyway or at the very least telling him exactly what he wants to here.

Despite the guarantees being made to him, none will be upheld if he can't play up to top 6 caliber. Realistically, its not that hard as has been seen many times every July 1st.

- BigStew

And you see many players who don't sign on July 1st. Many of them that do are doing it for big money and go to the highest bidder. He has equal bids so it's a different scenario.

He wants to go where is best for him.

If this was happening the week of July 1st it would be a side note. Since it's August and there's nothing else going on right now it's magnified to the extreme. We're at like 80 pages on an August blog. If anything I'm happy he's done this because we're still talking hockey and not politics like we would be without him.

Thank you Vesey.

I guessed we'd have a decision on Monday. I'd take a week to decide. Go on a vacation after the meetings to clear my head. Maybe go fishing. Come back after the weekend and set up a "The Decision" type thing.

Kind of my point, has he not done any research before this? Like i said before, each team is telling him exactly what he wants to hear. One would think he would know what team fits him the best before Aug 15th hit. His dad works in the NHL, its not like any team is going to surprise them.

You want to hear their plans from the management. I can look at the roster and think of where he would fit but to hear from the coach on how he would use him in the system and the GM as to what their plans are is an important piece.

It's like going to a job interview and asking what projects you would be working on and how the would utilize your talents. I can guess that before the interview but I want to hear what they have to say.

On a side note I just had a few interviews so Vesey and I are basically in the same boat except he has a ton of offers and I don't

Agreed.

It's not like there are really that many variables that he needed to wait to learn in the team meetings. The $ is set. The long term commitments to other players - and an approximate cap room analysis - are set. The history of the franchises are set. The position he will play is limited by line. The team's place in the league is known.

So you expect the team to score 250+ goals?

Top 4 guys: 4*30
Other in your list of 5: 20
3 "close to 20): 3*15
Other 2 from that list: 2*10
D-men: 45

- stashu

That equals 330 goals
That's just not gonna happen in today's NHL

My guesses
30&over... Eichel
25ish... O'Reilly, Reinhart, Okposo
20ish... Ennis, Kane
10+... Moulson, Girgensons, Foligno, Gionta, Larsson
Defense gets 25ish

Something around 230 goals
That would put us around 10th in scoring

It's gonna have to be totally gutted though
12mil might seem "cheap" but how much will they have to put into redesigning & updates they're planning?
I'm guessing quite a bit...
I've heard they want to do retail, condos, offices & a hotel there

- jdfitz77

They said they will put in 100-200 mil. Retail/Hotel/Residence/Office space all under one roof.

I guess we just differ on how we would do things, I would do my homework first, its very easy to see what 8 teams are doing, nothing earth shattering in the NHL, never has been and there never will be.

Top 4 guys: 4*30 = 120
Other in your list of 5: 20 = 20
3 "close to 20): 3*15 = 45
Other 2 from that list: 2*10 = 20
D-men: 45 = 45
120+20+45+20+45=250

Think you took that "Other in your list of 5" as "Other 5". There was only one there.

I'd do resturaunt on the top floor, Condos below that, hotel below that, some office space below that, retail, and then a grocery store (the stretch). It'll be 5 years before anything is open since they need to find tenants before they do any work.

Without being in that position we might think it's easy but maybe there's differences and intricacies. Idk. I hope he does decide soon, though. Would make for a fun rest of my work day

Oh that will cost an arm and a leg, but they were talking about it costing 20+ on top of those renovations as well. It's definitely an investment but the sticker price is much lower than I anticipated.

They need to completely redo the outside, the windows need to all be replaced with ones suitable for housing, the interior is outdated and needs to be redone. They need to make it more pedestrian friendly as well on the outside since it was built like a fortress. Not to mention the asbestos removal

- Zschalberg

Windows alone could cost a million
Asbestos removal can't be cheap
Then you've gotta remodel everything, redo electric, plumbing will have to be re-run...
It's gonna be a massive overhaul

Who knows, but based on previous discussions with one of my buddies that was an assistant GM in the league for years, the NHL isn't rocket science.
