There's nothing wrong with a rule that allows kids to finish school. Teams get rights for four years. That's enough.
- Canada Cup

It's funny because players in the CHL actually have this same right, only its 2 years. If a team doesn't sign a prospect playing in the CHL within 2 years, they lose that players rights. Depending on the players age, he either re-enters the draft or becomes an unrestricted free agent.

A lot of people are and it baffles me.

He didn't trade his own rights to Buffalo. He has 0 obligation to us.

He wants to pick where he plays. If he became a FA July 1st, no one would be paying attention. We'd be talking about Okposo. Blame the league.

Not saying you are bashing him but it's just funny how a team can choose to trade a kid who's family might be settled in an area, yet someone wants to choose where they play and they are the bad guy?

- sbroads24

No one here in Buffalo has any right to be mad at him unless he knew from the get go that he wouldn't play here and never said anything then I'd be upset only because we could of moved on and searched for others. Can't be mad at spending a third he didn't ask for it.

Kid has never played in the NHL and he wants top 6 minutes, take a step back JR and earn your minutes. He wants top 6 minutes and to play for a winner also get paid, what have you done in the NHL as of now to show that you deserve that.
- SABRES 89

Don't get why this is bad? He has multiple teams that want his services. If I had multiple job offers and they could all offer the same money I'm going to try to get the best fit for me and get the best opportunity. I'm going to tell them that I have multiple offers and I want x, y, and z and if they don't have it then someone else will.

He's just trying to get the best deal for him and he's been villainized for it. Sorry, he's not being selfish or thinks he's better than he is, he's playing the game the way you're supposed to play it.

You want to be mad at people be mad at Sportsnet and TSN and WGR for making this a circus. But even then, why be mad when otherwise we would have nothing to talk about at this point in the summer. It's August and I'm focused on hockey. I'm cool with it.

Has anyone other than the Preds said he is a top six guy? I certainly don't think he is guaranteed a top six spot on the Leafs.
- Canada Cup

No THEY have not...it's called Tampering.
However, the interest of 8 GMs, several of which are regarded very well and the opening in their respective lineup suggests heavily, in the absence of Tampering, that they do.

Why? Because he said no to the Sabres? There's nothing wrong with trying to maximize his situation. The kid decided to get a Harvard degree which gave hike the opportunity to try free agency. Nothing wrong with that and nothing wrong with choosing where you want to play.
- Canada Cup

Yup. The kid wanted to finish school and he did. Then he had like what, 4 months to wait to be able to choose where he plays? He wanted to be a free agent, said that, and did it. The only team he screwed is Nashville if he told them he'd sign and didn't like Nashville said.

Which means that the criticism that he demanded a top six spot is incorrect.

Even if he wants that, most free agents look at teams that have the best chance for them to play. I don't blame Vesey for saying "I'm going to spend 2-5 years on this team, I'd rather be in a top 6 role if one is available than put on the 3rd line and since I have my pick of the litter since all of these teams are interested I can look for the best opportunity for me"

What a jackass, right?

Some of those kids weren't offered a contract whereas Vesey declined his. That being said he's within his rights and it's not a big deal

http://www.thehockeynews....ts-not-named-jimmy-vesey/

included is a providence teammate of sabres d-prospect Anthony Florentino who, btw, will be finishing his college career as a senior for the friars this year

also atop this list is a center from notre dame where the sabres have two prospects in goalie cal Petersen and connor hurley, both of whom will be juniors this year

You've got to give it up to Murray for handling this whole Vesey thing right. The Sabres were able to get out in front of all of these teams, and make their pitch on several occasions in a relaxed manner. As opposed to being 1 of 4, or 5 teams crammed into a 2 day meeting schedule. If he chooses elsewhere, I've got to think that he had his mind made up all along.

I think they would have been, but I think they upped their chances by getting the extended date rather than a drink at the bar. If we play our cards right we might get to go home with him.

I think he was inclined to one or two teams all along - hopefully we changed his mind.

I still like the attempt. Of course I'd rather have a 3rd than lose it but I like that we took a pick that we had a good amount of and tried to turn it into a roster player.

You have to think he's got a good idea of where he wants to go and probably did before all of this started. You got your chance to not only talk to him but also show him the city and the harborcenter and have Jack talk to him all summer. You did the best you could do so you're 100% right when you say we were able to do more than a what, 2 hour presentation at max.
