You dont have to be smart to play hockey...
- Fruitcakenipple

While your statement is true, the best hockey players are generally quite smart. See list from an article on NHL.com

The 10 smartest NHL players I've seen.

With apologies to those omitted, I humbly submit for your consideration this list, arranged not in order but as a group. Goalies are not included.

1. Wayne Gretzky
2. Mario Lemieux
3. Jacques Lemaire
4. Bob Gainey
5. Pierre Pilote
6. Ray Bourque
7. Gordie Howe
8. Dave Keon
9. Nicklas Lidstrom
10. Bryan Trottier

All of the above are in the HOF

Joe Sakic, Ron Francis, Jean Beliveau, Scott Niedermayer, Peter Forsberg, Brian Leetch, Stan Mikita, Henri Richard, Bobby Clarke, Doug Harvey, Jacques Laperriere, Norm Ullman, Brad Park, Bobby Smith and Bobby Orr would be in the next group.

Not a bad group of players. There are smart hockey players that never amounted to much - but it is not a disadvantage for sure

Oh yes.

But it should be done by Thursday/Friday.

Then the media and leaf fans we'll be starting up the Tavares to the Leafs talk to carry us the next 2 years.

You are surely joking - the only favoritism Bettman has given the Leafs is that they are allowed to pay more welfare to fan challenged and financially dependent teams like NJ, Arizona, Carolina and before Fungoola bought them Buffalo. No team suffers because of the Cap more than the Leafs.

- winsix

I was joking about the cap circumvention but you guys don't pay stink to the other teams as far as I know. Plus when there was no cap you didn't win either...so you're suffering the same. Do you want to go back to a six team league to make things easier on you?

I completely get that wealth teams don't like cost controls to keep the league competitive, but considering it exist in Baseball, Football and Basketball too it's sort of where the world is at. And has been for a while now.

Its definitly not in baseball...

Basketball players just sign wherever they want and teams pay the penalty..

Hockey is a hard cap...

He seems to be concentrating on too many points at once. End result is a dilution of all points. I wish trolls would focus their attention on one, maybe two, clear points and really invest themselves into said point(s)

When you speak of hockey smart - I guess you are referring to instinct as opposed to intelligence. Hockey smart vs smart smart is hard to determine. IQ tests can mislead because they are general rather than specialized to a particular topic or subject.

I would guess that talent is not enough on its own. You need a level of intelligence to become a great player. Quality quarterbacks on football teams are generally smart guys. In hockey they talk about vision and hockey instinct or sense - or as I have intimated intelligence.

I remember some woman calling in to a radio show complaining about a moose crossing sign and that it should be located somewhere else so the moose would cross the road somewhere else

No they don't pay money to other teams, they pay it to the league and the league distributes it to other teams..
