Pacioretty, a superstar? Common. Give your head a shake. Even Habs fans would laugh at that one.
- Bruiniak

I'd put him on about the same peg as Bergeron

If Marchand or Bergeron counts then so does Pacioretty.

I never said superstar. But keep in mind there were only 28 players with 30 goals last year. Two of them were on Montreal. Scoring is down, like I said, 50/50 on the playoffs with Price.
- Mr.Bobby

Superstar is a very subjective term. With todays NHL a consistent 30 goal scorer tends to make the grade.

Bergeron is a top 5 centerman in this league. There is no doubt that he's a superstar.

Marchand is not a superstar. He's a great player but not a superstar. I would still take Marchand ahead of Pacioretty any day of the week.

Anymore it seems like the top players in the NHL can be divided into 3 categories.

1) Elite - Players like Ovechkin, Crosby, Karlsson etc.
2) Superstars - Players like Hall, Marchand, Pacoreitty etc.
3) Stars - Players like Eberle, Henrique, Krejci etc.

After that its just average NHL'ers and plugs.

You would compare Larsson with unworthy pukes like Zuess, Budda, and Harambe?

For shame Mr.Bobby, for shame.

Weber hasn't been an elite defenseman in more than half of a decade. In my opinion, he never was.

Vesey's agent says he won't sign tomorrow and not to expect it until Friday/Saturday at earliest. Good god I hope he's just playing with the GMs.

Vesey is a free agent tomorrow. It's consistently been reported he wants to speak with several teams. So you gotta give the guy a few days. He probably will be in contact and maybe visit Chicago, Toronto, Boston, NYR and NJD.

Question!

Why is Zacha's contract not the max $925? I thought if you were drafted at a certain pick you could get the max? Like was McDavid always guaranteed $925 or could he have taken $700 if he cared?

Or are entry level deals still negotiable, to an extent?

On entry level contracts the maximum salary you can give a player is 925k. However, you can pay them a max of 3 mil in bonuses or something if you chose to. There is no minimum for a player going on an EL contract other than the normal league minimum and draft position in the NHL does not guarantee any money figure.

Thank you señor.

Follow up question...How long does the team hold the newly drafted players' rights without ever signing the ELC ?

I believe it's two seasons but you'll have to look that one up. I'm not entirely sure.

Is this our off season boys ? Do we have a legit shot at landing Vesey to? That would be unreal, although I would still prefer we shored up our defence but I guess adding a player for free would make it easier to move assets for say a shattenkirk or trouba

No way. I don't see it. Schneider didn't have defensemen like Subban on his team. You'll see that Price will be exposed to be a below average goaltender without a great defenseman. His stats also prove that he's an average goaltender.
- Bruiniak

You have it the wrong way; Price bailed out Subban, not the other way around.

The reason Subban was traded was because without Price, he was useless in terms of leadership; Montreal sank like the Bismark and Subban was one of the first guys on the lifeboats rather than trying to right the ship.

Weber in his old age still scored three times as many goals... Subban used to score goals, why doesn't he anymore? Because of a lack of passers in Montreal? No, because he isn't the threat he used to be on the point... his game has fallen off more than Weber's last year. Assists are good, but if you're not putting up goals, it's not going to take long for those assists to go down, too. Subban was a liability half the time he was on the ice to boot.

Weber and Price worked together on the Olympic Gold Medal winning team, and true it was a stacked line up, but Canada's defense was unreal that tournament; I wouldn't have wanted to play against that nightmare. They surrendered all of three goals with Price in net and Weber on first pairing. But lemme guess, they were bailed out by the other d on Canada's squad? They didn't have ANYTHING to do with that?

How much different would our outlook be with Shattenkirk?

What if Shero was able to make a trade (Wedgewood, Kinkaid, Boucher a 1st, Bostons 2nd could all be on the table in some combination or all together I guess - not both goalies).

Get him for the full season, then if it was unlikely for us to sign him or we don't make the playoffs, retain most of his salary trade him to a contender and get picks + back. Could this be done? Would it be stupid if he couldn't be traded and we lost all that to be competitive for a year. If he got injured and then didn't sign or something we would be screwed.
