That's the thing. Guys like Pronger, Stevens and Hatcher ate a lot of ice time and masters at their crafts. Not to mention, bigger than everyone else. - roenick97
Uh, you got 2 out of 3 right, Stevens was only 6'1, 210. He was an slightly bigger than average sized Dman in his era.
True but compared to Chara, Hatcher, Pronger and the like, 210 ain't really that big. - BiggE
No doubt. Beasts.
Loved Hatcher and Pronger. Shame we got both in the fall of their careers. Hopefully we've got a player in that mold in Morin and actually have the patience to watch him develop. ..
Poor young Crosby...his head whipped back long after contact had been made. Current day Crosby has synced it up much better, the sign of a mature veteran. - jmatchett383
They don't make them like Hatcher, Pronger or Stevens anymore. Now they were the reason guys really had to earn their money.

Doubt Morin will ever be another Pronger, but I think he can be a more mobile version of Derian Hatcher and I'll happily take that. Guys with the combo of size, skill and sense at Pronger's level are very few and far between.

There will never be another Pronger.
But a more mobile Derian Hatcher is a good place to aim. I think Morin's mean streak is what is going to set him apart from his contemporaries. He seems to relish in it. I like a kid who knows how big he is and is willing to use that to his advantage.
Funny thing is Stevens wasn't bigger. He was listed at 6' and 200lbs which is pretty average even during his career. It was the threat of the elbow being lifted or the launching into you with a shoulder during the hit that made people think.
The other two. Yeah they were beasts. - dragonoffrost
No, you're absolutely correct about Stevens and I did know about his size but he played as big as a house. Great example. I think we all saw Chris Pronger and Tyler Myers face to face in the Buffalo series in 2011 I think. While Myers I'm sure could have his way with Pronger, Myers has never played on the same edge. It's ashame. Pronger and Hatcher made work in both the new and old NHL. I'm hoping Morin brings this back.

Wilcox also has that snarl and size. We could have a pair of towers on the back end in a couple years.

Big and tall is great but it's really a matter of how you use it. I want guys who can punish and make opposing players pay the ice. Like I said, I don't think Tyler Myers does this with all his size and skill, at least not at a Pronger or Hatcher level of nasty. I think Weber has it or at least uses to.

I was fun watching Wilcox and Morin during 3 on 2 corner drills at development camp. A coach would dump the puck into a corner and then the offensive line would try to score against the two defenders and a goalie. Morin and Wilcox were a pair together. The puck went into the corner and you just waited for the crunch as either of those guys checked the winger in the corner. A few times the guy would go down and get up just shaking his head at how they got mauled.

Wilcox will be the first dman called up this year.

Hedman is awfully close. He isn't as mean as Pronger by a long shot as Pronger was somewhat of a sadist. But the skills and physicality (to a point) are there.
