Kadri is not a top line center.
Matthews and Nylander havent proving to be top line players either.

they may be....but they arent now.

Cam Fowler (imo) isn't as good as people on the Leafs thread are making him out to be. 17 of his 28 points came on the PP last season. Meaning 5 of 5 he was as productive as the likes of Polak and Hunwick.

Trading the only player we have to have ever scored 30 goals with the Leafs is a strange idea. To say Vesey (who's never played an NHL game before in his life) can somewhat replace JVR is also without thought.

Leafs LW depth suddenly becomes tasty with:
Komarov
Martin
Greening
Holland/Rychel.

Pretty much disastrous any way you shake it

- walshyleafsfan

Theres Lupul.. And Nylander can play LW... (i think)

And yep, still pretty weak.. But its the Leafs, Id rather be weak up front than horrible on the back end again.. they havent even resembled a hockey team lately becaus ethe D is soo bad.

Shouldn't you be slowly weaning yourself off the Sabres?
- Atomic Wedgie

Touché

I'd like to see what they name the team first!

Some of the leaked potential names are horrendous.....Las Vegas Bluebirds?

of those 3 only kadri has proven himself

dont go all edmonton on us... nylander and matthews still havent proven a damn thing

- Dozzer

Do you really think theres any chance Matthews and Nylander wont be top 6 players?

And who cares, next year is another rebuilding year. A healthy Lupul is almost as good as JVR.. Add in Vesey and suddenly the LW position isnt so bad.

Kadri
Matthews
Nylander

Pretty sure these guys will be legit.. If you dont think so that fine..

It about maximizing a return for JVR.. Leafs wont be in a position to contend for the next couple years anyways.. Im not itching to trade JVR, but i also dont see any real good reason to keep him.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

The idea of keeping him resolves around the bigger picture. If he goes, we're looking towards Kadri, Nylander, Matthews and (imo he won't be with the Leafs much next year) Marner. LL, Mike and Brendan are not going to let that happen. At all.
I'm sure every team in the NHL will be willing to offer something for a 30 goal (or 25+) winger, on a 4.25 million dollar contract. To think Cam Fowler and a pick/prospect is the best return the Leafs could get for JVR is insane.

wrong reichel lol

rychel is my family

and yes... i think he should start wit the marlies to acclimatize himself to the leafs systems

- Dozzer

Rychel really played well the times I saw him in Guelph.

That trade is either a whole lot of nothing, or a huge win for the Leafs.

Have to hope his skating can get to where it needs to be a scoring 3rd line option.

His father is actually in the Boston area. He's a Toronto scout, but he doesn't live in Toronto.

Like all other teams, Vesey having interest in Toronto, AND Toronto having interest in Vesey is all conjecture.

At this point in time, here's all we know:

Buffalo is interested in signing Vesey, and to date Vesey is not interested in signing in Buffalo - at least not yet.

Everything else is speculation, although if you read what Vesey has said, you'd have to at least consider the possibility that Vesey wants to play in Boston.

The end.

- Atomic Wedgie

Exactly my point

I'd say Boston and Chicago lead the pack

You can easily suggest the odds of Matthews and Nylander becoming top 6 players in the nhl are very good.

But are if you're asking me if there are ANY chance one of them or both could end up being something else, then the answer is yes... there's always a chance.

Exactly. 100%. This.

I'm begging the Leafs not to piss this chance away of so much potential, by having the kids play on the top 2 lines (for the first 60 games or so).

Fair point.

I am just not a huge fan since I think he mails it in half the time... I see trading him as continuing with the culture change. The leafs won't contend, probably not even for a playoff spot during this contract, and after that, he is going to get paid more than he is worth.

I think the Leafs got an NHL player for pretty much nothing.

It's a win. Not ready to call it a huge win but it's a win.

So do the Jays stay in first place?

Does Miami take a flyer on A-Rod as they've hinted towards in a presser yesterday?

Enough of this JVR trading talk. It's asinine to think it'll happen this year.

- Aaron_85

Too hot/cold. Relying on the long ball way too much again this year.

I really don't know how it will go for the Jays down the stretch. I worry that they will make it in to the playoffs again just to get beat up by a team that's willing to play some small ball.

Just a feeling. There are so many subtly moving parts in baseball so hopefully I am wrong.

I am betting Boston.

do you remember a player by the name of alexander daigle?

there is no such thing as guaranteed in the nhl

young players go through slumps... you want older guys around to help them through it. also... even more importantly... older guys to put out on the ice when things arent going well for the kids which is inevitable

I'd say the keep him until next deadline (2018), or at the very least, next off season.

exactly..

great contract right now... but you wont like him in 2 years paying him 6.5-7 mil after he puts up 80pts in a contract year.. I think his fate is already sealed, he'll be traded.. The question is what kind of return can they get for him? ANA wants a top 6 LW, so they're the likely trading partner..

I can't argue with Garth's intelligence (or lack of it)....but (aside from creepy shirtless pics of Eichel)how is this one any different, in the realm of lacking intelligence/substance?.....serious question

Sure..

But JVR isnt really that go to guy.. He's nothing special defensively, doesnt do much to fire the team up (unless he scores).. He doesnt show a lot of emotion.

Hmm, I dunno.

Being a Buffalo sports fan comes with a fair degree of pessimism, we hope for the best but expect the worst!
