Is that only reason. The only reason.
Horrible trade BTW. Trading our only 1st line forward for an ok Dman....not a good move IMO. - Fakepartofme
It's actually not..
Fowler + a good prospect is about as good as you'll get for JVR... And if you can offload a bad contract while doing it even better! |

I think Fowler might be a little overrated.
Or maybe losing his place as the powerplay QB for Anaheim makes me doubt him... I dunno....
Sounds a awful lot like Del Zotto... |

At the end of the day, it will come down to family (Toronto, Boston), wanting to have a major role from day one (New Jersey, Buffalo), or winning (Chicago).
I don't think that Vesey is seriously considering anyone else. - TommyHawk
having a major role, playing left wing to the best player in the world AND winning = pittsburgh |

Trading JVR cause they signed a 23 year old medicore prospect would be just a terrible management decision. - ClarksonDavid

I see him more like Dylan McKay.
Cool, brooding, distant.
But you know that he's only built up that tough exterior to keep from getting hurt again.
All he needs is the right person to come along to teach him how to be vulnerable. How to love again. - Atomic Wedgie

JVR is part of the Burke era... His value will never be higher..
one of two things will happen with him. He'll either get injured and play 40 games, or he'll be the 30/30 guy we expect him to be and he'll be playing for a new contract next year. He'll probably put up even better numbers (contract year), sign a big contract, then taper off... He's the only guy on the team you never see stick up for his teammates.. he cowers.. |

My goodness you couldn't be more off. Charlestown, frank Southie. Also, you've been gone for too long, WEEI has gone the way of the dodo bird for all intents and purposes. 98.5 The Sports Hub. Have a clue - RickJames77
Damn. I loved WEEI.
My WEEI story: I used to go to Champions Sports Bar to watch Leafs games (this would be the 2000-01 season - before you could get the NHL package). It was about 60 yards away from my apartment.
So the geniuses at WEEI decide to have a WEEI night there. On a weeknight - let's call it a Tuesday or Wednesday.
For those of you not familiar, Champions is located in a hotel. So it was a great place for me to watch a Leafs game, because I could always get them to put it on a TV behind the bar for me, it wasn't exactly a rowdy, sports-mad kinda bar.
IIRC, that night was also a thunderstorm, so the bar was empty. Me watching the Leafs, and a few business travelers. And a DJ and MC and several WEEI "celebrities."
And they were giving poop away.
I ended up walking out of there with:
- 2 WEEI t-shirts
- 2 WEEI long-sleeve t-shirts
- 2 tickets to a BC football game that weekend
- the book "Red Smith on Baseball"
- a helluva lot of free beer
- a lot of plastic WEEI logo crap like key chains, etc.
- the grand prize of a $600 Festina watch.
Good times. |

It's probably because of the "All in youth movement" the Leafs have going on.
Would it so bad to still have JVR on the team @ 32 years old in 5 years? I think he'd fit right in for the Leafs when the young guys have matured. - Scabeh
Agreed. Happens to fans of all rebuilding teams. People think they can just ice an under 21 lineup and watch them go from strength to strength. Average age of recent Stanley Cup winning teams is towards the oldest end on the scale for teams that year.
People complained about trading Kessel for scraps. Now want JVR gone for Cam muthalickin Fowler. |

you are dealing from an area of shallow depth (top 6 forwards) to obtain a talent in an area of depth (left handed offensive d man)
how does that trade make sense? |

Sup Garth.
Really, you too are going to assign odds based on pure speculation.
So Leafs at 2:1 based on.....?
His father and bro are there....How do you even know he gets along with his family?
Babcock enticement........You guys laugh at how Sabres fans use the link between Eichel and V as one (among many) incentives yet you list a coach that he has no connection to....you really think he gives a flying F about his coach?
Lastly......top 6 playing time....not sure if you've heard but I'm pretty sure every team in on Vesey is offering top 6 playing time (at least to start.....what he makes of it is up to him to keep it).
Very poor arguments to support 2:1 odds. |
