This.
It's just a god damn game ffs. - Scabeh
I take it more seriously than I probably should (read as, means more than "just a game") but no where near serious enough to harass someone because they are a fan of another team. |

I was at a Leafs-Sens game in Toronto a few years back - some douche Leafs fan in our section purposely dumped a beer on a Sens fan.
20 Leafs fans stood up, called up the usher, they threw the Leafs fan out and everyone applauded. And then a Leafs fan bought the Sens fan a beer.
True story.
If you think that treating a visiting fan poorly is going to help your team win, you don't deserve to stay and watch the game. - Atomic Wedgie
I am not even sure in my worst years (you know, drunken, early 20's) that I would have done that. It is a serious comment on how pathetic their life must be. |

Yea... that's bullpoop. People like that are the worst.
It IS a lot of fun to have back and forth that is friendly. Any Jays v Yankees game seems to have a lot of that which is fun. I've also gotten into with a guy wearing a Vince Carter Orlando jersey at a Raps game. Lots of chirping but smiles and nothing stupid/vulgar being exchanged. - markmark
Oh for sure.
Friendly teasing between opponents is all fun and games imo. Adds to the overall experience imo. |

A bunch of years ago I was at the final series weekend for Boston vs. Toronto. My friend and I had zero problems. Actually most of the Boston fans around us were asking us stuff about the city of Toronto.
It might have helped that Boston ended up beating out the Jays on that weekend |

I was at a Yankees - Red Sox game a long time ago (before the Red Sox had beaten the curse of the Bambino).
We were sitting in the bleachers, in direct sunlight, so everyone drinking (at that was pretty much everyone) was getting sloppier and sloppier.
There was a Red Sox fan giving grief to a Yankees fan - good natured, but with just a little bit of edge. The Yankees fans was winning every battle, because he simply had better material to work with.
So the Red Sox fan finally told him, "All your team ever does is buy championships! You just pay the most money for the best players - that's how you guys win so many World Series!"
The Yankees fan coolly replied, "So? I'm fine with that - our owner makes the most money, and he plows it back into the team so we win - maybe your team should quit being so cheap and try to win a championship!"
Poor Red Sox fan didn't know what hit him - he was dead silent for a couple of innings - you could actually see him trying to process the thought in his head.
Bottom line: you have to go see a Yankees-Red Sox game. It kills me to say it, but it's better than watching a Leafs-Habs game in Toronto. |

That's what I was getting at
When someone spills a beer or something, I often say something about how they have a problem and then say something along the lines of them spilling beer equates to alcohol abuse. |

I was lucky enough to see Clemens against Martinez once when I was a kid. Talk about (frank)ing epic. |

I've only ever been to one - 100 years ago*. Leafs lost 5-1 - it was one of those games that you knew from the opening puck drop that the Leafs weren't even trying to win. Oh, and we got to see Craig Wolanin blow out his knee to end his career.
Anyhoo, there were eight of us there in our Leafs jerseys. We were standing around in the intermission in the mezzanine, and a couple of old Habs fans - they had to be in their seventies - came over and started trash-talking us.
It was so franking awesome.

Really? Aside from the classic "Leafs sucks" chant I'd say these games usually go pretty smoothly. |

So Clemens pitching for the Yankees?
I'll bet that would have been franking epic! the bitterness of the Red Sox must have made for an awfully acidic atmosphere for Clemens (great pitcher, horrible human).
Who won? |

Honestly, do not remember. I remember being there and the experience itself, but not so much the game. I think I was maybe 5 or 6.
Edit: Maybe a little older now that I put the dates together, but point still stands. |

I dunno, I was there with a whole bunch of guys on a stag weekend.
Our general state of drunkenness may have clouded my perception, or influenced the reactions of those around us.

I always get misty when I watch the scene from Fever Pitch where the kid comes to Fenway for the first time.
I have vague memories of the first Leafs game I ever went to - a 2-2 tie against the Blackhawks. For about 25 years I remembered it as the season opener - yeah, it wasn't. But my most vivid memory is actually walking up to Maple Leaf Gardens and going in the front doors. |

Anything before 10 I have some issues with remembering. I had a pretty tramautoc immediate family loss at 11 and apparently a natural response is to literally erase things from your memory. Not sure if that was the case or I just had a poopty memory, but in talking to others it seems like that's what happened.
But it weird that most people remember the experience and not so much of the game
Assuming your first game is as a kid. |

I have only very sporadic memories about stuff that happened before the age of 10...
or yesterday afternoon.

Huh, I know so many people that remember poop vividly back to when they were like 5. Always thought that may be the reason, but who knows, I could've just grew up with a bad memory |
