All of CBC's other play-by-play people have either been falling over their words, been not infrequently flat out incorrect, or provided mind-blowingly pointless commentary (if I had a nickel for every time I heard "OH THAT'S A MISS" or "GREAT!", without any explanation or justification in the diving competition...).
Yes, he dun goofed good here. But considering that he is a last minute replacement calling a sport which he has never done in his life, he is far and away the shining beacon of commentary glory for CBC so far these games. He's never going to forget this, and that's fine. But it was an exceptionally rare pair of gaffs and he's still one of the best, if not the best, that CBC has.
It's not his sport jackass. He is filling in for Armitage who had to back out with heart problems. I say good on him for filling in so well in such shortnotice. - Iggysbff
Agreed. Calling Phelps another name in a medal event at the Olympics is a sign of greatness. Lets give Friedman a medal as well for being such a good sport.

Funny thing is that Friedman would probably agree with you, thus he owned up to his mistake. Not much more you can ask of the guy.
You are making it out as more than what it is though. It is not some sort of Epic travesty upon the face of humanity.

I'm sure Phelps is devastated. How will he ever recover?
This is after all a D level sport we are talking here. No one really gives a poop.
Fridge is the only watchable person on the panel - and down here in so cal he has been the highlight of those Sat night late games on center ice
- He tries to keep those other guys on point when they start slobbering all over themselves - his 30 thoughts are required reading - so what he blew it no big deal - it happens - keep up the great work Fridge -

If a bus driver mixed up lanes and people got injured in the process, people would be up and arms. This is his job. He gets paid to do this. He called arguably the greatest Olympian ever another name. - Bruiniak

That's Jero. He thinks 9/11 was an inside job and that no planes actually hit the tower....that is somebody's queue to post a gif of what really brought the towers down. - leonkennedy

Sure. However, he failed at his job. It wasn't a small tiny mistake like people make in their daily lives. This was one of the bigguest blunders ever. At the very least, he should have lost his media priviledges. By not taking a hard stance, it basically teaches him nothing and leaves the impression that media members can make mistakes without being reprimanded.

I'm starting to understand why Americans have such a sh*tty choice on November 8. Thank you helping me make sense of it.

Anyone else feel like smashing up police cars, individuals properties, businesses, and attacking white people for being white, or is it just me? - laughs2907
No, it's called diversity. It makes white cities better, just ask all the white people who left Detroit, Milwaukee, Chicago, etc. Look at how much better those cities are now that they are diverse.

But we have to be fair here... The police were completely in the wrong to shoot an armed man. And to make matters worse, they probably screamed at him to put his gun away before they shot him too... I mean, is there ANY NEED to shout at someone? The police should have thrown their weapons away and fled the scene... But no, they're racist!
Thank god those brave protesters are there to heroically destroy the city, and attack innocent people due to the color of their skin...

Speaking of diversity, why are smiley faces only yellow or red? Where is the outrage? Whose ancestors are responsible for this?
