Brian hedger tweeted that no one should expect a Vesey decision today, it will probably be announced over the weekend. Getting ridiculous at this point - ikeane
I wonder if the 'delay' is simply to allow for the selected team to orchestrate a splashy press conference-- which would be in line with Mc D style---
Vesey must have made his mind up by now--- the menu reading is over kid--- time to order up--
I sure hope he makes much quicker decisions on ice!

Brian Hedger's Twitter feed is full of new info - he talked to one of Vesey's agents:
Just spoke with one of Jimmy Vesey's agents, who says reports of him being down to two teams are completely inaccurate. #Blackhawks
Peter Donatelli, one of Vesey's agents, says a decision is not likely going to happen today, but should be done this weekend at some point.
Donatelli says Vesey and his management group have only met once to discuss the options, yesterday, and will meet again as a group today.
EDIT - more from Hedger
As for report Vesey told #RedWings he wants to be closer to home, Donatelli: "Where he picks will be based purely on a hockey decision."
Donatelli: "In reality, we've had one conversation about the meetings - Marlowe[with teams]. We won't be rushed. It's the right way to do it." #Vesey
Sound like some back peddling here---- maybe his reps are trying to have Jimmy 'reconsider' or perhaps they are squeezing every ounce of leverage from this moment to help other clients?
I call major BS on the statement that 'we won't be rushed'--- what a croc |

Maybe, but the weekend is an awful time to make a big announcement, as it is usually a dead zone for the media. Even Friday afternoon is a bad time to make a big announcement to the media. |

Unless the kid is truly a prima donna (his article from Feb about why he stayed in school didn't make him sound like that), this all smacks of media/PR/agent-driven circus. If I were him, watching the snarkiness already out there, I'd want just a simple press release to announce. For the sake of his relationship with his teammates, that might be best. |

Agree completely--- get it over with and call it a day--- get back to talking and playing hockey-- the hype is just going to be a detriment in the long run-- |

Because Datsyuks contract wasn't subject to a recapture penalty. Hossa and Webers were. Not sure who else. - JRoenick97
Keith is the other contract on the Hawks that would be subject to recapture penalties if he were to retire early. Hossa is brought up a lot because, other than Luongo, he would be the oldest at the end of his contract. Some of the guys on those contracts were relatively young and not likely to have many issues (like Ovie) or so far into the contracts they only have a little time left (Savard), but a majority will be in around 39/40 when they end.
Others include: Luongo (43), Hossa (42), Chara (41), Parise (40), Suter (40), Zetterberg (40), Franzen (40), Savard (39), Keith (39), Kronwall (38), Carter (37), Crosby (36), and Ovechkin (35). |

Cap recapture penalty is not what you are talking about. Cap recapture penalty was for deals signed under the old CBA that the league deemed as "circumvention" of the cap. That was Weber, Hossa, Pronger. Datsyuk was signed under the new CBA. The Wings would have had to pay the full hit if they didn't trade the contract away. With the cap recapture penalties, teams can not trade away a retired players contract. These are very specific contracts form the old CBA. - JRoenick97
My apologies, I missed the part where it has to be a "long term contract" 7 year deal or longer only. |

Weber too. It he retires at 39, the Preds have a 15 million cap hit. Unreal. |

The #Blackhawks have reportedly offered UFA Jimmy Vesey a max. 2 year, $7.55M contract. Decision coming soon
I thought the max he can get is like 925k |

correct
A lot of the twitter reports are now humorously inaccurate, to make fun of how overblown this thing has become |

>No strong current connections with the Hawks

I think the max is $925k salary, and up to about $1.9m in performance bonuses per year. I suppose someone could characterize that as a "max 2 year, $5.6m contract". But not $7.55m.

Doesn't matter how much year over year varies to be penalized. All that matters is if you paid the player more than the cap hit over the span of time they were on your team. - breadbag
No recapture rules under new CBA. Re-capture applies only to pre 2013 CBA deals where league came back to say deals like Hoss and Duncs 'circumvented the cap'.
Now: Max-Min annual salary must be less than 2x. There are also YoY limits. Plus the 7-yr max term on new FA, 8-yr max term on re-signs. |

Yes this.
0.925 mil + maximum 2.85 mil bonuses x 2 years = 7.55 mil |
