Alot depends on if Panarin hits the bonus again. At 6.5 X6-8 years you could afford him by moving Kruger if pan does not hit his bonus again.
- kmw4631

No because even if he can be afforded with only moving Kruger, it squashes the chance to add any impact players because the hawks will consistently be at or over the cap. A big move or two will have to made next year, its undeniable.

Look for Patrick Sharp and Johnny Oduya to come back next offseason as the back up plan after Panarin signs with the Blues.
- MNHawk

Oduya should have never been lost. Egregious error in management. Butt that's all over now.

The thing about Panarin in St. Louis.

LOL Hawks match anything in Division - or trade him to Calgary

Count me in the Hossa "retirement" ala Pavel Datsyuk to clear space for next season.
- 17SEC

I could see that, he'd be 39.

So Hossa can retire and save on cap? What about the recapture penalty? Is that only if he is traded and then retires? Hossa is still a solid player and I think he'll play past 40. I think he'll become a excellent 3rd line guy.

Regardless if he retires, there is still a recapture penalty that is a whopper. It's something like $4.25 per for the length of his contract if he retires at the end of this season. If you're talking about him going on LTIR, then thats a get out of jail free card but I'm sure the league would have inquiring minds.

Cap recapture means we are still on the hook for his cap even if he retires. How does everyone forget that?

No. We still pay full cap penalty.

Well - not "retire" - just relocate to a bottom feeder that needs to spend money to get off the cap floor. Never plays for them ala Pavel.

Sources saying Jimmy Vesey has chosen the Chicago Blackhawks, they had offered him the contract maximum for rookie a week ago.

I'm not sure who this is but was posted 16 mins ago. But the week ago comment makes is appear made up.

@NHLSourcesSay is a fraud, unfollow. Tweeting unreliable rumors going all the way back to announcing Kovalchuk resigned with the Thrashers.

I think it's more of a case of being "injured", AKA Chris Pronger the last several years. Provides the cap relief when they but him on the injury list.

Datsyuk said he was retiring and the wings should have had a 2 mil penalty for a year, but seems that after they traded him to Phx, he is listed as an active player at 7.5 mil per season, even if he isn't playing for them. Not sure how that works, but probably because he was 35+ when he signed the deal I guess.

Hossa will be sent to the Sens to be the next player to get his number retired. His big cap hit/low salary is just what the owner wants there.

I'm not certain of the logistics of being a "healthy scratch" every night and if it could be that simple to circumvent the recapture penalty without having to go LTIR. Just my 2 cents.

I wouldn't say filthy. Maybe if everyone was in their prime. Vesey is going to be a rookie. Hossa is getting long in the tooth. AA if offensively more like a really good 3C than a 2C and can't win faceoffs.

It may solid top 6, but if Vesey signs, he realistically is probably gonna land in the 30-40 point range, assuming he continues his development.

Let's see how good a prognosticator he is:

Let's see how his Hawthorne picks do tonite.

- StLBravesFan

The harness picks remain to be seen....

But if Hawks make it down to the final cut that's frontrunner status and that is what I actually said. My source believes Hawks have a big shot.

...if I'm betting I still like the Hawks chances.

If he goes to Ottawa then retires, we are still on the hook for his cap hit if he retires before 2021

I love how an unproven college player fits into the top 6. I've never seen him play, but this kid has put big expectations on his shoulders with all this don't you think?

Do you guys who are trading Hossa really thing he'll play somewhere other than Chicago for $1MM cash per year?

And if he retires someplace else, Hawks are still on the hook for the recapture.

Well eventually Hossa gets his # retired but not until his contract is up (while the Sens get 5M credit per year and only pay Hossa 1M per year). Again, not sure if plausible to healthy scratch a "retired" player for 4 or so years.
