Are we now taking the Oilers approach?

I certainly hope JV is ready but if he isn't there is no point in trying to force it. There is nothing wrong with young players spending time in the AHL, most NHLers spend time there and as far as I can tell no players have ever been worse off for the experience.

I'm just assuming he's going to keep moving forward. Of course if he come to camp all strung out from being at the Beibs sex parties in LA all summer then Utica would make sense.

I'm not worried about the way he spends his free time, I am worried that he might lose his offensive confidence if he doesn't get a chance.

If he plays with skilled players and gets some PP time, I'm all for having him develop in the NHL but watching him toil on the 4th line and sit in the press box will be disappointing for me.

I don't doubt he has the ability, but I do doubt if he will get the opportunity especially with all the talk of adding more veteran scorers.

If he has, then he will make the team on merit and then there will be no problem. Virtanen will have to beat out guys to earn his roster spot and if he doesn't I have no problem getting big minutes in Utica. Unless you are worried about his feelings.

He was one of our best players in the second half of the season. Why is everyone assuming he will develop a coke habit over the summer and regress from last season. Don't 19 year old kids usually improve ?

Why do you think the Canucks will choose to park him in the press box?

I was joking about his sex parties with the Beibs.
I don't see where I suggested he would toil on th 4th line or eat popcorn in the press box.
I would like to see him keep developing in the NHL ( if he hasn't taken a step back or comes to camp out of shape) and not just send him to Utica in order to get more ice time.
Further more, sending him to Utica to make room for Burrows would make me a bigger Vegas fan than Donna.

Apparently not on the Canucks.

Some here like push the 1040 narrative.
Heard BMac & Taylor the other day firing Willy before the season has started. Thank god Pratt is on holidays and Sekeres should be given a one-way bus ticket back to Ontario. Dump him off in Sudbury.

I think he improved his play in the 2nd part of the season but its a pretty big stretch to call his 5 goals in 31 game performance, one of the best players.

I do think 19 year old kids usually improve, I hope he gets the chance to do it with skilled players as I personally hope he can be a top 6 player for us in the future.

I think he will improve and he will earn a roster spot but if guys like Gaunce, Etem, Rodin, Burrows ect all have very good camps I could see Virtanen being a casualty because he is not waiver eligible.

Because mgmt has already expressed a desire to add more veteran top 6 players. That would mean Jake would likely be pushed down to the bottom 6 where I imagine whoever is on will be playing and whoever isn't will be sitting....

Is this not what happened last year?

It's okay I'm not going to PM you or start a tantrum if you address me directly.

No need for you and Don to try and create Drama where there isn't any.

Almost everyone on here wanted Burrows bought out this off season and now they want to send Virtenan to Utica to make room for Burrows.

That's fair, I just want to see him get the chance to score, whether it is here or down in the AHL.

Management wants there top young players to develop in the best way possible. There reason they rotated in and out of the lineup was because they weren't AHL eligible and they didn't like their situation in junior. They had the kids on a plan that involved game time as well as days off in the gym to focus on nutrition and strength training. He will play in the top 9 every day or he will be in Utica
