Yup.

Edit: August is the month of UFA's signing 1 year deals.

Yup. 1 year, no trade protection. They're just a draft pick that doesn't realize it yet.

I think there are a lot of teams that think they are in the running for vesey so there will be a few teams looking at Hudler ...a few which could be contenders or playoff teams at least ....I don't see why he wouldn't sign with one of those over Van ...unless they overpay ...but I guess he did go to cgy which made little sense then so who knows
- Redmile247

Maybe. The irony is that Hudler will likely be more productive than Vessey next season.

Very likely.
The Vesey hype is reminding me of the Fabian Brunnstrom sweepstakes.

If we take Hudler then it's clear we gave up on a top 6 forward and are finding a safety net for Sven for next year.

RedMile is caught in the dog days of summer. He use to be a lot more positive about everything. Lately it's been you say white , he says black. You say one , he says two.

I think your kinda right ...I need to see some (frank)ing hockey already

I know I've been a bit on the opposite side with a lot of topics on here lately ...but I still like certain pieces the Canucks have and see potential for the future

Bo is coming along better than I anticipated
Hutton I'm a fan of
I like bringing in eriksson
Boeser looks to be a steal
Demko as well

Players who many are high on that I feel could go either way :
Sutter ...his sample size is just too small and a lot of his points came with the twins
Sven ...love his skill ...want one more season of equal or better numbers before I consider him a long term Canuck
Gudbranson.....it's what you haven't had in a long time so I see the excitement but he was deemed expendable and replaced by some older D men on a young team ....kinda a grass scratcher
Tree/Larson/pedan/etc ...all young D with very little experience so you really have no idea what you have at all
Hansen ....his numbers should drop considerably if the twins are given any better option than him
JV ....I hope he goes to Utica for the start as he needs to be a go to in a lesser league so he can dominate offensively and physically
Tanev ...guy is very good defensively but without the offensive game I can't think of him as anymore than a 3/4 guy who is miscast
Edler ...his age is going up and offense down ...he is one of the most over valued Canucks IMO
Marky/miller...I see a better version of ramo/hillier there ...one is a aging vet past his prime who lets in leaking goals and the other a hopeful project that needs to show he can be a starter before I consider him anything more than a stop gap

The same could be said of twenty other teams . If Canucks stay healthy the will be 12to 18 . The difference this time is we are improving and not slipping.

I see player improvements happening for younger players but as a team there is a lot of reliance on older players

Sedins and Eriksson still productive.

Burrows will be a bubble roster player.

Miller providing a one year security blanket.

Much more balanced lineup than the previous one posted. Switch Granlund and Gaunce though. Granlund has to be given a minimum of 30 games to see if he is worth keeping on the big club as he is waiver eligible

1- yep

2- I would not be shocked to see Burrows slot in for JV.

3- Would like to see Markstrom take the no 1 spot legitimately from Miller this year.

Just a feeling that JV might see some time in Utica. Hopefully he has a great camp with a better attitude.

That would be a step backwards.

Sedin/Sedin/Erikson
Sven/Bo/Hudler
Burr/Sutter/Hansen
Etem/Granlund/Dorsett
Gaunce.

JV to Utica
Rodin to Utica for warmup after recovering from injury. He can then slide in wherever needed (sub in for injury, playing poop, etc).

Soft top 6. possession team...

- dbot

I am growing tired of seeing the word "soft" associated with this team. We are all aware this isnt the clutch and grab era anymore right? You need some tough physical players, but can you really criticize the top 6 for being soft? Players like Benn and Ovechkin who can punish physically and score are extremely rare, the rest are no tougher than the Sedins, Bo, etc.

Agreed... let's just call it a feeling that JV could benefit a bit from the confidence factor in Utica. Hope I'm wrong and JV comes out and solidifies himself in the lineup.

Bo and Etem could be a little grittier than they get credit for and Dorsett will pretty much go with anyone. So it's 'not bad' and 'not great' for the forwards so it is what it is.

We have Tree and Gudbranson back there now to help round things out in the toughness category we should be fine.

Either one or both could be sent to Utica. Nobody is going to be claiming Burrows on waivers.

It will all depend on who shows up in training camp. I know most of the fan base will freak out out if Etem or Rodin or Gaunce or whoever get out played and sent down and then claimed. I don't think it is going to make or break the season or the franchise going forward. These are all bubble players anyways.

I agree, the back end has more toughness and likely where you want it.
I just think that the team really doesnt have any forwards that are afraid of the corners, some like Etem may not be very effective there but he still goes. Sven took some time last year but in the second half he was relentless on puck pursuit and took contact, I am not sure what more toughness you can ask for from your forward group as they take hits to make plays
