WHA was AHL level hockey right? Here are WHA rinks I was at,

1. Chicago Amphitheater - You were right on top of the action, could talk to announcers in the bar at the west end before the game. Talk to Chet Coppeck between the penalty boxes. Small rink, fast action, the kid line, when the circus was in town the rink smelled and you could visit the animals behind the stands.

2. Indianapolis - Market Square Arena right downtown, big rink, way too big for the crowds at the game. This is where most of the cougars moved after they folded in Chicago. This is also where Gretzty played his first pro games in the WHA for the Racers.

3. Cinncinatti - Riverfront Collesium - Game I was there for had a good crowd, cheerleaders in the stands, typical bowl hockey rink. Right on the river near the ballpark in downtown. Between periods there were large outdoor balcony you could go out and look over the river and the city. Stingers had great marketing, always something going on when action on the ice stopped (mascot, tee shirt Toss, cheer leaders etc)

4 Cleveland - Richfield Collesium Loved this rink, probably cause of the night i went. It was between Cleveland and Akron, in the middle of nowhere, parking was adjacent to large pine trees, and there was a gentle snow coming down.
Rink was large 2 level bowl with one concourse, plenty of Crusaders fans the night i went, but ultimately the rinks remote location caused attendance issues.

Bulls played there at at the beginning - Packers, too (now the Wizards) - as did the Stones, Beatles, Dylan, and countless cows.

It was part of the Stockyards - didn't need the circus to smell.

Ha Ha

Pierre doing color on the water polo game, I can pick out that voice anywhere.

Wonder if there's a box he's swimming in next to the pool.

Has he pointed out anyone who attended Shattuck-St. Mary's yet??

I used to get in the Amphitheater for free and saw a lot of great players come through there...Gretzky and many others.
The place always smelled like a Circus was in town but if was a fun place to watch a game.

No but he has pointed out that joe in the front, second cousins' grandfather was once a coach at the little sisters of the poor in Sudbury and led them to a provincial title in the mid 60s

It was actually the long lasting residual smell of the stock yards that had since been moved away to KC.

I interviewed and was hired by the Chicago Public Schools as a math teacher at Tilden HS (there was no choices after being hired, no choices...just assignment...like the draft in hockey...after you were established you a had a few options for movement, usually to the disadvantaged schools b/c many people were afraid to venture into the neighborhoods.)

Anyway I was excited and figured I wanted to go down to 4747 S Union and see the place....I get out of the car and there was a very distinct underlying smell...of the steer slaughter.
The animal pens were still intact in some places, but the majority were destroyed but all those years of meat packing doesn't go away or under the ground to make methane like in the Preacher finale....

Yeah always smelled bad from the old stockyards in that area, just more poignant smell over the beer smell inside when they had the elephants pooping behind the stands

The beer reminds me of the Cougars Duke Harris. Tuborg and Gonnella sponsored Cougar games back then, Duke's unofficial nick name was Tuborg, cause he was shaped like a keg of Tuborg beer.

Still the primer for the landing spot, no matter what any of us think:

“We’ve looked at depth charts with some teams and talked about them,” said, Vesey’s agent, Peter Fish, “There’s obviously a lot of thought that goes into it: The city, the coach, the GM, the salary structure, how a team treats their players in the second and third contracts down the road.”

Gulp.

- wiz1901

But on the opposite side there is all this. Sure, we are tight on salary structure...but Bowman seems to make it work. Two Cups after having to gut the team.

I just don´t wanna get my hopes too high here! Question is why whould Vesey and his agent leak their list before negotiations to anyone?

I have no actual knowledge on the subject, no industry contacts. So just my completely unqualified, your-guess-is-as-good-as-mine opinion...

I think the countdown to Monday the 15th is counting down to the START of a process that will take a week or so. If he were to sign with Hawks (or any team other than Sabres who currently own his rights) on Monday the 15th, there would be screams of tampering. He and his team will do a little recruiting trip like they do in the NBA. Hear pitches from several teams, go back and contemplate, make a decision.

Unless he knows who he wants to play for. Agent calls the team at 12:01 says he wants to play for you, we all know what the salary is and what the max bonus can be. Will you agree to that?

Said team says yes, we have factored it in.

OK deal, by 12:05 am.

When you wake up and get on to this board, you see 1200 posts at 8 am, you'll know said team was the Hawks!

I imagine all pro sports teams burn the midnight oil to get a deal done on highly coveted players. Then again, even if teams work late into the night, it takes two to tango so while teams could be up all night to hammer out a proposal and eventual deal, the agent and player could say "Thank you, we'll get back to you later this week." Vesey's deadline to sign is likely start of training camp so he can truly take his time.

Did you even read my post before responding to it?

It painted a scenario where he knows exactly who he wants to play for.

I did read your post and respect what you had to say. I was merely proposing an alternate scenario. My post wasn't meant to be argumentative.
