With Roy resigning from the AVs, I wonder if he'll leave the game and enjoy retirement or become a goalie coach somewhere. I could see him doing that.

My first hockey experiences came in Syracuse, NY in the early 70's with the Syracuse Blazers (NAHL). Ironically I am now in Johnstown, PA. The 2 cities featured in Slap Shot. Sadly the Blazers did not have "Dr Hook" McCracken on that team but they did have "Butch" Barber, Bill Goldthorp and Dave Ferguson. The 3 combined for over 900 PIMs in '73. Sitting by the glass was always eventful as you just knew several brawls were always going to happen. for an 11-yr old the fights were simply fantastic.

Cambria War Memorial. Great arena, saw some ECHL hockey there 10-15 yrs ago.. Do you get to any games currently? Think they play NAHL hockey out of there now.

I can attest to this. I've been to 3 hawks games in Newark, have a customer with seats, and a car service. Only way they go is car service, drops us off at the door, picks us up down the block after the game.

Place is a bit scary even during the day..................

- vabeachbear

Oh stop I have taken the train, parked and walked form the far parking and have been fine. Car service for a hockey game my goodness so fancy pants. No worries in Newark, everyone in is happy the Rock is there and are pretty cool to the fans. I guess maybe just us Devils fans though so watch out!

Good point about the Canes having three 2nd lines rather than 3 prototypical lines. That does make sense to pair up Teravainen and Lindholm since they both play a defensive game and have good hockey sense. Don't know much about Aho but he is one of your top prospects.

Lots of potential with the youngsters you have there, not just the forwards but your All-American blueline is pretty decent as well.

- AEL_Fox

That blueline is the strength of the club and only getting stronger. They're about one year out from the playoffs, I think.

Roy was stunting the growth of that team and especially of budding stars Mackinnon, Duchene, and probably even Landeskog. As long as the next coach isn't Roy 2.0, I can see Mackinnon finally breaking out with a monster year. Duchene can hit the next level of offensive excellence. And could this quiet down the Landeskog trade rumors?
- AEL_Fox

A horrid coach. IIRC the Avs were the worst corsi teams the last few years running...... Way too much core talent to be that poor of a club.

The resigning of Ward is a real head scratcher. Lack put up solid numbers when Ward was hurt and the kid had a steady workload...... But if they insisted on keeping him they could have gotten him for a mil not the 3.3 they gave him.

Good coach, good structure. IIRC they were in the top 5 of shots allowed. Like your color analyst with the soap opera name.

Tripp is awful.

I think the idea behind signing Ward was that the team isn't quite ready for a deep run yet, so rather than overpay for a guy in free agency or give up an asset for a position that isn't going to get them a cup they might as well stick with what they have for cheap until Nedeljkovic is ready in a year or two.

TSN headline description: "Patrick Roy has resigned as head coach and vice-president of hockey operations of the Colorado Avalanche. Roy announced his decision in a statement, saying his vision for the team was not aligned with the Avalanche's." Wonder why it took the team that long to realize that as well.

Roy wanted to win now, he didnt want to be patient with the core. Wanted the team to be aggressive at UFA, make changse to the core, etc. McFarland (Sakics right hand man) is getting mroe and more power in the org. They shifted drafting away from huge hulking players this year, and didnt draft a guy from the Q either. That was Roys mandate. He wanted Radulov, Avs decided to spread out money in smaller signings, better depth guys, hired an anaylitcs department.

Roy was a loved coach by the players, but he killed the fans. Sad to see him as go as as a figure in Avs hockey, but not sad to see him go as a HC or mgmt of my team as a fan

I grew up in Anchorage, Alaska so our main attractions were the Aces and the UAA Seawolves who play at the Sullivan Arena. There was a fellow named Dean Larson a that played for both teams at different times. Deano was my coach at one time - awesome person, animal of a player he a was smaller guy - but played aggressive like a rabid little badger. I remember one Aces game when he got one punched and was out cold and when he laying on the ice his arms went straight out like a sleep walker, it was scary at the time, but after the fact it was pretty funny as he was okay.

I also remember watching Peluso play for the Seawolves back in the day what an animal he was.

Vesey's agent refuted that report via a couple twitters. He basically said there are no favorites at this time and any rumor stating otherwise is only speculation.
- EbonyRaptor

Yeah, but what else is he going to say? He can't really say its going to be the Hawks or its going to be the Rangers because the kid then would lose leverage. And...it would also probably be tampering if the agent said that before August 15th.

Thanks for the insights! Great to get an Avalanche fan's perspective. Based on what you explained, I would part with Roy too and like the direction the team is going instead. The Avalanche have a great young core to start from, so adding players like Radulov would be a backward move given his poor attitude and ego. A young team doesn't need that in the locker room, bench, or ice.

That's a good call. I think he'd do well in that situation. If he wanted to leave Q's country club that is.

didnt know Dineen was a U of Denver alumni. It seems like guys who come from the Pios have a weird home coming attraction to that city.

But my early guesses for coaches are Todd Richards, Claude Noel (both with McFarland Columbus Blue Jacket connections) or they reach out to Keefe from the Marlies

Just hearing on the Score the final 3 names for Vegas all have Hawks in the name??????????

Its almost like Bettman at every turn, says "What can be the stupidest thing I could do today?"

Nighthawks, Red Hawks, or Desert Hawk apparently are 3 of the finalist names

It's already stupid enough to have two Sox teams in the MLB.

Two 'Hawks in the NHL? To me that's egregious.
